Sharing Problems

Hello everyone. I am a college professor and I share all of my course documents via Google Drive. I post a document to Drive, share it to anyone with the link, view option only. Last semester, it worked fine. However, this term, every time I share a document, the URL it gives includes /edit at the end. This prevents anyone from being able to access it, as they get a message that they don't have permission. Any thoughts on what is going on here? What changed to cause the /edit to be added? I don't believe I have done anything differently. Note:  I've tried simply taking the /edit off the end of the URL, but that doesn't work.

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Jeff

I am not sure that "edit" is critical. What sharing permissions have you set?  I think you need Anyone with the link Can view.  The copy and the link from the share window.

Thanks for your input. Yes, I am using the "Anyone with the Link Can View" option. And deleting /edit from the URL just results in a URL that gives the error message: "Sorry, the file you have requested does not exist."

Off-and-on an old error gets fixed and then later reintroduced by which it makes a difference if the share is done using the link from the browser address bar or the link from the share dialogue. If things are working well then the two or the same, or if they are not the same then anyway both are good enough. If things are broken then the share may work if the link from the sharing dialogue is used and the share may fail if the link from the browser address bar is used. I suggest that you try both links for the share, and please report back!

As justification for my remark about fixed and reintroduced I point at this time only to [1], but there is plenty more.

And... Jeff, I did not mention deleting "edit" from the link (but of course, that migh be the effect of copying and pasting the link from the browser's address bar, mentioned by Bas, with whose comment I agree (FWIW...).
