Get started with the Drive app for iPhone and iPad

This article describes the latest version of the Drive app for iOS. To get the latest version, download an update from the App Store. To edit documents stored in Google Drive, install the Google Docs and Google Sheets apps.

With the Google Drive app for your iPhone or iPad, you can view, share, and organize your files, as well as make them available to view offline. You can also upload and store new files directly from your phone or tablet.

All of the files available on the app are also available on the web, and vice versa, so that you can easily access your files from anywhere.

Download the Google Drive app

  1. Touch the App Store icon on your device.
  2. Find and install the application called Google Drive.
  3. On your phone or tablet home screen, click the Drive app icon.
To download the Drive app, your phone or tablet needs iOS version 7.0 or higher to work properly. Learn more about the minimum Apple device requirements.

Open and manage files

To open and view a file:

  1. Open the Drive app.
  2. Touch the name of a file to open it. To open a menu of options instead, touch the grey i next to a file’s name to open the details panel and select an option:
    Share Share the file with someone and give them view, comment, or edit access to the file
    Remove Remove the file from your device
    Move to... Move the file to a new or existing folder
    Print Print the file using Google Cloud Print or AirPrint
    Star Star the file as important for easier access
    Rename Rename the file
    Open in... Open the file with a different Google or third-party app
    Get link Copy a link to the clipboard to paste elsewhere (for example, an email)
