Syncing changes to other people's Google Drives

If a file owner or editor changes a file, changes sync to all collaborators’ Google Drives. File commenters and viewers can’t change online files or files on their desktops.

Change a file in Google Drive on the web

If you’re an owner or editor of a file, any changes you make to a file online are synced to every collaborator’s Google Drive on the web, Google Drive folder, and Google Drive mobile app. If a file is in multiple folders, any changes to the file will be reflected in all of the folders.

Commenters and viewers can’t edit online files.

Change a file in your Google Drive folder on your desktop

If you’re an owner or editor of a file, any changes you make to a file on your desktop are synced to every collaborator’s Google Drive on the web, Google Drive folder, and Google Drive mobile app.

When a file is changed on your desktop, a new version of that file will sync to every collaborator’s Google Drive on the web. If two people make changes to the same file, both versions will be available online in the file’s revision history. Only the latest version of a file will be available every collaborator’s Google Drive folder.

Commenters and viewers can’t edit files on their desktop, but you’ll see the most updated version of a file in your Google Drive on your desktop.
