Before you transfer your domain to Google Domains, you must:
- Complete the steps below at the registrar for your current domain.
- Consult with your current registrar for its transfer and setting process.
- Unlock the domain.
By default, some registrars lock your domain. In order to be eligible for transfer, follow your current registrar’s instructions to unlock the domain. - Get an “authorization code,” “transfer code,” “EPP code,” or for .jp domains, “REG-ID code.”
The code is a unique string of characters. For example: "5YcCd!X&W@q0Xozj."
Tip: For .jp domains, if you can't find the code, use the placeholder code “REG-00-0000-0000.”
- Your registrar may require you to turn off the domain’s privacy protection, also known as:
- Private registration
- WHOIS privacy
- Registration privacy
- Privacy
While privacy protection is off, your WHOIS contact information may be public until you finish the transfer. After the transfer, you can change it to make your information private.
