Welcome to Google Domains
Google Domains is a domain name registrar. You can use Google Domains to:
- Search for available domains
- Buy a domain name
- Transfer a domain you already own from another registrar
- Transfer a domain between owners within Google Domains
- Manage and renew your registration
- Create up to 100 forwarded email aliases for your domain
- Forward traffic to your domain directly to an existing website
- Integrate with web hosts to create a web presence for your domain
A domain is a name for your place on the internet. If you think of a website as a store, owning a domain name is like signing the lease on the plot of land. No one else can build on it, but you still have to build the store and set up all the infrastructure to make it work. Google Domains is designed to help make that process easy.
There are several steps to owning a domain and publishing a website:
Step 1: Plan. What do you want to do on the web? Do you want email addresses for your family, coworkers, or employees? Do you want to use this for business or for personal use? Do you want to build a website, to use this domain for an existing website or blog that you own, or just use the domain for email and other online services, such as Google Drive?
Step 2: Purchase a domain name. Google Domains helps you search for domain names, purchase a domain, and renew your registration.
Once you purchase your domain name, you need to renew it annually. With Google Domains, you can renew it manually or automatically, and you can purchase registration up to ten years in advance (five years for .co domains).

Step 3: Build a website. If you want a website, you need to select a host for your site. The host has the web servers that serve your site. It provides all the infrastructure to support your site, help traffic reach your site, and enable users to interact with your site. Web hosts usually include the tools to help you build your website.
Web hosts vary in price from free with very basic website building tools to charging a monthly fee. Google Domains has partnered with web hosting companies that include a wide variety of options at a variety of prices. If you have an existing website or blog you want your domain to point to, there are two choices:
- You can use domain forwarding to redirect traffic to an existing site. For instructions, see Domain forwarding
- Many web hosting providers and online tools like Google Sites and Blogger allow you to use your domain as the address of your site. Explore the help center of your web host for instructions on using your own domain or a custom URL.
Step 4: Set up email. If you want to have email addresses @ your domain, you have several choices:
- Email forwarding lets you forward up to 100 email addresses @ your new domain to existing email addresses. For example, suppose you have just purchased “example.com” and you have an existing email account “firstname.lastname@example.org”. You can use email forwarding to create an address such as “email@example.com” that is automatically forwarded to firstname.lastname@example.org.

- Your web host may offer a customized email solution. Check the help center for your web host.
Step 5: Get the word out. To reach new customers on Google, try running an ad with AdWords Express.
