Transfer from Google Domains to another registrar

You can transfer your domain to:

Another Google Domains user
Your own account with a different registrar
A different user with a different registrar

Important: Most domain transfers take up to five days to complete. If you want to cancel a transfer before it is registered with the new registrar, you must do so before the transfer is complete.

Transfer restrictions

Before you begin the transfer-out process, note the following restrictions:

If you recently purchased or transferred a domain, Google Domains requires you to wait 60 days before you can transfer your domain to another registrar or user. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) guidelines mandate this waiting period.
If Google Domains has an outstanding administrative action against your domain, you can't transfer your domain until you've resolved the matter.

Learn how to transfer Google Domains to another service

Sign in to Google Domains.
Click the name of the domain that you want to transfer.
In the top left-hand corner, click Menu Registration settings.
Under 'Domain lock', make sure that your domain is unlocked.
To the right of 'Transfer out', click Get authorisation code.
Select To a different domain registrar and click Continue, then sign in if necessary.
Copy the authorisation code and provide it to your new registrar.

Tips for transferring a domain out

Know the different roles

Each step of the transfer process requires action by different individuals and entities:

Domain owner: (You at Google Domains) In Registration settings, prepare the domain for transfer (updates the contact information, unlocks the domain and gets the authorisation code).
New domain owner: (You or the person you are transferring the domain name to at the new registrar's site) Provides the authorisation code to the new registrar and pays for another year of registration.
New registrar: Provides the authorisation code to the registry responsible for the domain.
Registry: Asks Google to confirm that the registrant (WHOIS contact) wants to transfer the domain.
Google: Approves the domain transfer. Google sends a transfer confirmation email to the registrant (WHOIS contact) for approval.
New registrar: Informs the registrant (WHOIS contact) that the transfer is complete. The new domain owner may have to re-enter and verify the contact information for the registration or reverify existing information.

Understand WHOIS information and transfers

During the transfer-out process, if private registration or redaction is turned on, none of the information for the registrant, administrative or technical contact will be transferred to the new registrar. For domain names with full WHOIS published, this information may or may not be transferred depending on the new registrar's processes.

Upon completion of the transfer, you should re-enter and verify this information with the new registrar. This process may yield a change to the registrant, administrative or technical contact provided for the registration.

Minimise disruptions

When your transfer is complete, Google Domains' services stop. (Examples of Google Domains' services: email forwarding, domain forwarding, name servers, resource records, private registration.) This stoppage could impact your website and online presence. To minimise any disruptions, note the following:

You may need to contact your web hosting provider and your Domain Name System (DNS) hosting provider.
If you're using Google Domains' name servers, reconfigure your name servers and resource records with your new registrar.
To continue using any Google products and services with your domain, you need to verify your domain with Google.
