Changes to automatic payments in India due to Reserve Bank of India regulations

Learn why we made changes

Due to Reserve Bank of India regulations, Google will need to set up an e-mandate for your card for recurring automatic payments. Automatic payments in India will be limited to ₹5,000 per transaction.

This affects all users, but there are some differences depending on whether you're a new customer or an existing user.

When you set up a new subscription

For new subscriptions, all automatic payments that use credit and debit cards are subject to the Reserve Bank of India e-mandate notification

This requires Google to set up an e-mandate for your card and limit automatic payments to ₹5,000 per transaction. This may affect your payments on Google Domains.

How to fix current recurring payments

Your current recurring payments may fail due to the Reserve Bank of India regulations. This includes both domain registration and Google Workspace renewals.

To fix your subscription if you enabled automatic payments and your card is ready for an e-mandate, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your Google Domains account and navigate to the "My domains" tab.
  2. In the Red alert box at the top of the page, click Update now.

As an alternative, you can also generate an e-mandate for your Google Domains subscriptions by following these steps:

  1. Sign into Google Payments and click on the bell icon  on the top right to view your alerts.
  2. Click Fix now in the alert corresponding to your Google Domains account to fix your recurring payments.

You may be unable to generate a new e-mandate if your bank does not support this regulation yet. To keep your subscriptions active, continue to make manual payments as soon as the payment is due.

Make a manual payment

At any time, if your account has stopped running due to the unavailability of an automatic payment option to make recurring subscription payments, follow the steps below:

Make a manual domain name renewal payment

If you wish to renew your domain name, complete your renewal manually.

  1. Sign in to Google Domains.
  2. Select the name of your domain.
  3. At the top left, click Menu  and then Registration settings.
  4. Scroll down to the auto-renew section.
  5. Click Add years and select the number of years you’d like to add.
  6. Click Continue to payment to add your payment information.
  7. Click Buy.
Tip: You can also click Add years directly from the Domain Overview page of your expired domain.

Make a manual Workspace subscription payment

If your Workspace subscription payment is due or your subscription was suspended due to unavailability of automatic payment option and you purchased Workspace through Google Domains, complete your subscription payment manually.

  1. Sign in to Google Domains.
  2. Select your domain.
  3. At the top left, click Menu and then Click Email.
  4. Under "Email configuration options," click Pay now.
  5. Next to "Billing information," click Pay now.
  6. Click Buy.
Tip: You don’t need to change your payment details in order to complete your purchase.
