In sheets I don't have the Headers choice. How do I get it?

I have gone to HELP and tried what they said, but the drop down doesn't list Headers.

This is why Excel is a better choice. Not enough helpful features in Sheets.

Hello,

If you are referring to "Headers and footers" which is under the "Format" menu for Google Documents then Google Sheets doesn't have that. You can add headers and footers when you go to print your Google Sheet.

Hi Anne,

In Sheets, users will normally use the top few rows to keep their headers but they are entered by the user.  Depending on your sheet, you might be able to use a function that would create a header row but the formula would need to get the data for the headers from another part of your sheet.

It sounds like you have some specific needs and without seeing the structure of your sheet, we would only be giving you our best guess.  For someone to best help you, would you please take a look at this post about Best Practices When Asking a Question and share a sheet that has the permissions set for “Anyone with link can EDIT”?  Thanks!

I agree completely with Carol.  While the Google platform works well for others, it is not conducive for office staff/secretarial components.

If you have a header row, and wish to sort a table without including the header row in the sorted result, try this ...

(1) Select the entire sheet (by clicking in the empty cell that is above Row 1 and to the left of Column A).

(2) From the tabs at the top of the sheet page, select:
>Data
>> Sort range,
and you will be presented with a dialogue box.

(3) In the dialogue box:
(a) check “Data has header row”, and
(b) define your sort criteria.

Thanks, John Yankovich.  That's exactly what I wanted to do.

If you want  to keep the first row, or first few rows, as column headers that are always onscreen when you scroll down, you can freeze them at the top. There is a gray handle on the left hand side, which starts above row one. If you click on it and pull it down, the rows above it will be frozen.

I don't seem to have found the resolution to my problem as yet if anyone could help?  I'm using google forms to do maintenance forms for work and the row number doesn't correspond with the responses due to the auto populated headings created by my form. I believe i have tried all the methods mentioned in the feed and any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Liam,

Because you essentially have a new question, would you please post a new question in the forum that includes a link to a sample of your file.  Take a look at this post about Best Practices When Asking a Question and share a sheet that has the permissions set for “Anyone with link can EDIT”?  Thanks!
