I can't change the language in Google Sheets

Hi, How do I change the language of the menus to English (UK)? Right now it's in my other language, Polish, and it is harder to understand the menus when it's not in English as we are used to programs using English.

If I go to File-Settings within google sheet. It says that the "Display Language" is Polish (Polski), however when I click that, to change it to English, it redirects me to my account's language settings, which is already set to English (UK). I am not sure what I should do. I have seen someone else have a similar problem and someone responded to them saying to
  • Add the Polish language.
  • Make Polish the default language (by clicking the arrow to move it to the top of the list).
  • Remove English.
  • Wait 15 seconds, then close and terminate the browser.
  • Restart your browser.
  • Return to the language settings.
  • Add the English language.
  • Remove Polish.
  • Wait 15 seconds, then close and terminate the browser.
  • Restart your browser.
  • Check if Sheets is now in English.

However, when I did this, it still didn't change the language to English. I honestly don't know what to do anymore.

Hi Lena0427,

The language, currency, date and time, and number formatting are determined by the following:
  1. Your Google Account 'Preferred Language':
    • Controls the UI (user interface, menus) language for ALL Docs/Sheets/Slides/Vids files.
    • Sets the ruler in metric (centimeters) or imperial (inches) for ALL Docs/Slides files.
      • Metric (centimeters):
        • English (Australia)
        • English (Canada)
        • English (India)
        • English (Israel)
        • English (New Zealand)
        • English (South Africa)
        • English (United Arab Emirates)
        • English (United Kingdom)
      • Imperial (inches):
        • English (Philippines)
        • English (United States)
    • Preselects the default currency, date and number format for NEW Docs/Sheets files.
  2. Docs/Slides file 'Language':
    • Determines the language of the dictionary used for spell checking.
  3. Sheets file 'Locale':
    • Determines formula delimiters (comma, semi-colon, backslash)
    • Determines the time delimiters
      • Italy uses hh.mm.ss for 'Time', and cells can be configured to use hh.mm.ss,000 for 'Custom date and time'.
    • Determines the first day of the week of the datepicker for cells that contain dates.
      • Sunday:
        • English (Australia)
        • English (Canada)
        • Englsih (Philippines)
        • English (United States)
      • Monday:
        • English (India)
        • English (Israel)
        • English (New Zealand)
        • English (South Africa)
        • English (United Arab Emirates)
        • English (United Kingdom)
    • Overrides the default currency, date and number format that was preselected by the Google Account 'Preferred Language'.
      • India enables Rs currency + Hindi month names.
      • Philippines enables PhP currency + Tagalog month names.
      • For other 'Preferred language' in your Google Account šŸŒ Language Settings that have incorrect default currencies, those countries don't exist in the files' Locale list.
  4. Sheets cell 'Format':
    • To customise the currency:
      • Go to the menu Format > Number > Custom currency.
      • Select the preferred currency.
    • To customise the date and time:
      • Go to the menu Format > Number > Custom date and time.
      • Select the preferred date and/or time format.

FAQ....

  • Go to your Google Account: šŸŒ Language Settings.
  • If the required language isn't listed, then click on '+Add another language' and select the desired language, and the country.
    • ATTENTION: There are many 'Preferred language' settings that have incorrect default currencies. The issue has been escalated to Google, but Google responded there was no intention to fix the problem. Here are a few I have tested:
  • To set the 'Preferred language', move it upwards from the list of 'Other languages',

Google Account: what to do after configuring a new 'Preferred language':
  • The new date-time and currency formats should be available immediately upon creating NEW files.
  • The new UI language may require that you:
    • Clear the browser cache and cookies (instructions: ChromeSafariFirefox).
    • Restart the computer.
