System requirements and browsers

The latest versions of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms are compatible with the following operating systems and browsers.

Browsers

Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms work with the 2 most recent versions of the following browsers (unless specified otherwise). Make sure cookies and JavaScript are turned on for your browser.

Other browsers may work, but you might not be able to use all of the features.

Drive for desktop

You can download and use Drive for desktop on these operating systems:

  • Windows:
    • Windows 8 and up
    • Windows Server 2012 and up

Check which version of Windows you have.

  • Mac:
    • macOS Catalina 10.15.7 and up

Check which version of MacOS you have.

File systems supported by Drive for desktop

The Drive for desktop content cache supports connected APFS (macOS), HFS+ (macOS), or NTFS (Windows) file systems. Drive for desktop currently doesn’t support network volumes (for example, SMB or NFS).

Drive for desktop creates a virtual Drive, which appears as a FAT file system.

Note: FAT has some file size limitations. For example, the largest possible file for a FAT32 drive is 4GB (minus 2 bytes).

Important:

  • To edit with real-time presence in Microsoft Office, you need Office 2010 or up.
  • Drive for desktop doesn't support Windows ARM-based devices.
  • Drive for desktop doesn't support operating systems in beta and may not perform as expected.
  • Support for 32-bit Windows Systems will end in the second half of 2023.
