I'm not the OP, but this worked for me (on an up-to-date version of Safari on MacOS). Disabled the one extension I have (Capital One Shopping), and it works fine now.

I figured this was a Safari issue since it worked on Chrome on my machine, too. I even have the same extension installed on Chrome.

Hi Elena Balmaseda,

To ensure we have a good understanding of the situation, so that we can find the cause of the issue, can you please answer the following technical questions:

About the issue:
  • What error (if any) you are receiving? (please provide screenshots)
  • When did this problem start? (give the date if you know it)
  • Explain what you were doing (or trying to do) at the moment when you first noticed the problem.

About your system/internet configuration:
  • Which device are you using? (give details including brand name etc)
  • Which operating system are you using? (provide the version name and number)
  • Who owns the device? (you personally, or your company/school/etc)
  • IF the device is owned by your company/school/etc, have you checked with the IT department that they have not changed any security policies that would now restrict access to documents in Google Drive?
  • Which app/browsers (and browser version numbers) are you having this problem in?
  • How are you connecting to the internet? (ethernet cable, wifi home network, or mobile device wifi)
  • Have you used any kind of networking modifiers? (eg. VPN / DNS Proxy / Secure Enterprise Network)
  • Have you used any kind of data filters? (eg. Anti-Virus / Anti-Malware / Firewall / Popup Blocker)

About your files and access:
  • Are the files stored in your personal My Drive, or in a Shared drive (of a business, school, etc)?
  • Are you trying to access the files using the same account that owns the files?

Hello Shane,

The error occurs anytime I try to access google docs from safari. It simply says "Home screen is unavailable. Try to load it again or send an error report." The problem started Sunday and it happens anytime I type google docs into my safari browser.

I am using a personal MacBook Air from 2016. I am using Safari web browser version 16.3 I am using my personal home wifi, but the problem has occurred using public wifi as well.

Google docs did work on Google Chrome browser, which is browser I never really use. It also worked on the google docs app on my phone.

When I try to access my documents from docs through my drive, a pop up comes up that says, "This error has been reported to Google and we'll look into it as soon as possible. Please reload this page to continue."

None of the other good links worked when I try them on safari.

Hi Elena Balmaseda,

At this stage it seems the problem is isolated to the Safari browser.

I have a Macbook, so am able to do testing with my Safari 16.3.

I dont get the same issues that you are getting.

Could you try the following (while testing access to docs after each one before proceeding to the next):
  • Reset Safari to defaults?
  • Uninstall and reinstall Safari?

Hi, Elena,

In addition to the suggestions my friend Mr. Shane provided, perhaps try a few simple steps first.

This issue is typically caused by an interfering browser extensions. Before reinstalling Safari, try disabling or uninstalling ALL your browser extensions at the same time. Once they are all uninstalled or disabled, clear the cache in Safari and then restart your computer. If it is working properly now, you can reinstall / re-enable your extensions ONE AT A TIME to locate the offender.

Yes! As Salman noted, the Capitol One Shopping extension has been the root problem for a number of users posting about this issue in the forum. If you have that extension installed, please disable or uninstall it in Safari. Hopefully that will take care of the issue for you.
