See and use suggested charts and analysis in a spreadsheet

See automatic suggestions based on the data in your spreadsheet in Google Sheets. You’ll see suggested:

  • Formatting
  • Charts and analysis

Add suggested formatting to your spreadsheet

Google Sheets suggests alternating color background formatting, for your spreadsheet.

  1. Open a spreadsheet in the Google Sheets app.
  2. Tap More More.
  3. Tap Explore.
  4. Suggested formatting will appear, based on the data in your spreadsheet.
  5. To apply the formatting, tap it.
  6. To remove the suggested formatting, tap the option again.

Note: You can only add formatting to a spreadsheet if you have permission to edit the file.

See and use automatic charts & analysis

  1. Open a spreadsheet in the Google Sheets app.
  2. Tap More More.
  3. Tap Explore.
  4. Charts and analysis will appear, showing trends and patterns from the data in your spreadsheet.
  5. To use a chart, tap Insert chart Insert chart.

Not seeing any suggestions

If you open the Explore panel and don’t see any suggestions, make sure that:

  • The spreadsheet or selected cell range isn't empty
  • You have selected a range of data that contains numbers, repeated text, or another type of pattern.
    • For example, a range of data with "Yes"/"No" form responses
