Add and edit tables

Organize information in a document or presentation with a table. You can add and delete tables, and adjust the size and style of table rows and columns.

If you're using Google Docs on a computer, you can also:

  • Sort rows
  • Drag and move rows and columns
  • Pin table header rows so they repeat at the top of each page
  • Prevent information from overflowing across pages

Add a table

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open a document or presentation.
  2. Tap where you'd like to add a table.
  3. In the top right, tap Add Plus.
  4. Tap Table.
  5. Choose the number of rows and columns you want in your table.
  6. Tap Insert table. The table will be added to your document.
Add rows or columns

Google Docs

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open a document.
  2. Tap a table.
  3. To add a row or column:
    • Row: In the bottom left of the table, tap Add Plus.
    • Column: In the top right of the table, tap Add Plus.

Google Slides

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open a presentation.
  2. Tap a table.
  3. Tap the grey bar next to the row or column.
  4. Tap one of the following:
    • Insert row above
    • Insert row below
    • Insert column left
    • Insert column right
Delete rows and columns

Google Docs

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open a document.
  2. Tap a table.
  3. Tap the arrow that appears next to the column or row.
  4. In the menu that appears, tap More More.
  5. Tap Delete column or Delete row.

Google Slides

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open a presentation.
  2. Tap a table.
  3. Tap the grey bar next to the row or column.
  4. In the menu that appears, tap More More.
  5. Tap Delete.
Delete a table

Google Docs

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open a document.
  2. Tap any cell in the table you want to delete.
  3. In the menu that appears, tap More More.
  4. Tap Delete table.

Google Slides

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open a presentation.
  2. Tap the table you want to delete.
  3. In the menu that appears, tap More More.
  4. Tap Delete.
Merge cells in a table

Google Docs

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open a document.
  2. Select the cells you want to merge.
  3. Tap Format Format and then Table.
  4. Turn Merge cells on.

Google Slides

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open a presentation.
  2. Select the cells you want to merge.
  3. In the pop-up menu, tap More More.
  4. Tap Merge cells.

Resize and style tables

Resize rows and columns

Google Docs

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open a document.
  2. Tap a table.
  3. Tap a cell in the row or column you want to change.
  4. Tap Format Format.
  5. Tap Table.
  6. To change the row and column size, tap the up or down arrows next to "Minimum row height" and "Column width."

Google Slides

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open a presentation.
  2. Tap the existing table.
  3. Tap the top of a row or column.
  4. To resize the row or column, touch and drag the lines at the edge of the row or column.
Resize a table

Google Docs

To edit the table size in your document, open docs.google.com on a computer.

Google Slides

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open a presentation.
  2. Tap the table you want to resize.
  3. Around the edge of the table, touch and drag the blue squares.
Style individual cells in a table

Google Docs

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open a document.
  2. Tap a table.
  3. Tap the cell in the row or column you want to change.
  4. Tap Format Format. Under the "Text" and "Paragraph" menus, change how your text is formatted.

Google Slides

To style individual cells in Google Slides, go to slides.google.com on a computer.
