Use images, blocks, templates & multimedia in Google Slides

In a presentation in Google Slides, on the right, you can access options to:

  • Open Gemini and ask to create an image.
  • Insert blocks, stock images, and other multimedia in your slides.
  • Create slides from templates.
  • View and record your presentation.
  • Add speaker spotlight shapes to your slides.

Use AI to create an image

To create images with Gemini in Slides, use Help me create an image . For example, you can ask Gemini to create an image of a picnic or an abstract painting.

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. On the right, click Help me create an image .
  3. In the panel, enter a prompt.

Insert blocks in Slides

A building block is a formatted piece of content, like agendas, quotes, or key statistics. You can use it to create professional visual presentations. Each block is composed of different Slides content types that you can change after you insert it in your slide.

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. On the right, click Building blocks .
  3. Select, or drag the block you want to add to the slide.
  4. To find more options, select a block type.
  5. On a slide, in a building block, you can:
    • Move the building block.
    • Remove shapes or text.
    • Revise text.

Tip: To ungroup before you move or remove individual shapes or text:

  1. Right-click the image.
  2. Click Ungroup.

Insert images & other multimedia

You can enhance your slides with stock media and photos. Stock media includes high-quality stock images, web images, stickers, and GIFs that you can use at no charge. To insert photos from your computer, use My media.

Insert stock media

Important: Photos and illustrations you add from Stock media may come from third-party providers and are subject to third-party providers’ licensing terms.

Stock media includes high-quality stock images that you can use. Select web images that you have the license to use. Learn about search for images.

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. On the right, click Stock media .
  3. Search for images or GIFs by keywords.
  4. Search for relevant content:
    • To search across all stock media:
      1. In the search bar, enter your selection.
      2. On the right of the search bar, click the Down arrow and then All.
    • To filter by type:
      1. Click All.
      2. On the right of the search bar, click the Down arrow.
      3. Select the media type you want to use.
  5. To add an item to your slide, click it.
  6. Customize the location of the item you added:
    • Resize:
      1. To make the item bigger or smaller, select the image, GIF, or sticker.
      2. Adjust the item from the corner.
    • Move:
      1. Select the item.
      2. Drag it to the location you want.
Stock images and GIFs can be used for personal, education or commercial purposes and must be used in accordance with our abuse program policies and our Google Workspace Acceptable Use Policy. Stock content is made available for use in Slides as part of creating a presentation. Stock content cannot be publicly displayed and distributed on a standalone basis. Stock content may not be offered for sale or used within templates provided to third parties. Stock content may not be incorporated into a logo, corporate ID, trademark, or service mark. You may not use stock content featuring a person in an unflattering or unduly controversial way.

Insert photos from My media

Important: To add personal photos to your slide, you can upload your photos from Google Drive or Google Photos.

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. On the right, click My media .
  3. In the panel, select a tab:
    • Google Drive
    • Google Photos
  4. Select a photo.
    • You can filter photos by their location and media type.

Use templates

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. On the right, click Templates .
  3. Browse the templates by category or search for a specific one.
  4. To check the preview, select a template.
  5. To add it to your presentation, click Use template.

View & record a presentation

Important: You can only record your presentations in Google Chrome and Edge browsers. However, you can view, share, and delete recordings from any browser.

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. On the right, click View and create recorded slideshows .
  3. In the panel, click Record a new video.

Use speaker spotlight

To let an audience watch your live video feed when you present, insert a speaker spotlight shape.

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. On the right, click Speaker spotlight .
  3. In the panel, select a speaker spotlight shape.
  4. On a slide, arrange the speaker spotlight shape.
