This article refers to Google Workspace Labs, which is a trusted tester program for users to try new AI features. Workspace Labs is currently available to trusted testers in English and may not be available in your country.
In Google Slides, you can ask Duet AI to:
- Create images.
- Generate new slides.
- Summarize a presentation.
- Write or rewrite content.
- Reference your Drive files or Gmail emails as you write or create a new slide.
Important: This feature is currently available on desktop.
Before you use Workspace Labs
- Workspace Labs feature suggestions don’t represent Google’s views, and should not be attributed to Google.
- Don’t rely on Workspace Labs features as medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice.
- Workspace Labs features may suggest inaccurate or inappropriate information. Your feedback makes Workspace Labs more helpful and safe.
- Don’t include personal, confidential, or sensitive information in your prompts.
- Google uses Workspace Labs data and metrics to provide, improve, and develop products, services, and machine learning technologies across Google.
- Your Workspace Labs Data may also be read, rated, annotated, and reviewed by human reviewers. Importantly, where Google uses Google-selected input (as described in the Privacy Notice) to generate output, Google will aggregate and/or pseudonymize that content and resulting output before it is viewed by human reviewers, unless it is specifically provided as part of your feedback to Google.
- Generated images are for use only within Google Slides.
- Workspace Labs generated images are designed to bring your imagination to life in Google Slides, and may not represent real world situations.
How Workspace Labs data in Google Slides is collected
When you use the Duet AI side panel in Google Slides, Google uses and stores the following data:
- Prompts you enter or select.
- Generated text and images.
- Google Workspace content that you have access to that is referenced to generate content (both Google-selected input and user-provided input).
- Your feedback on Duet AI side panel.

Use the Duet AI side panel
- On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
- At the top right, click Ask Duet AI
.
- To make the side panel bigger, click Expand
.
- To go back to its original size, click Collapse
.
- To go back to its original size, click Collapse
- At the bottom of the panel, you can select from suggested prompts or write your own.
- From the generated text or image, you can:
- Generate new text or image: Click Retry
.
- Add the suggested content to your presentation: Click Insert
.
- Before you click Insert
, place the cursor where you want the content to be inserted in your document.
- Before you click Insert
- Refine the generated text or image: Write a new prompt.
- Generate new text or image: Click Retry
- To close the panel, click Close
.
- On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
- At the top right, click Ask Duet AI
.
- On the side panel, you can:
- Create an image based on a selected slide: Enter “Create an image" or "Suggest images for this slide.”
- Select a suggested prompt: Duet AI side panel might suggest images based on the content on your slides.
- Create your own prompt: For example, you can ask “Create an image of a dog with glasses.”
- Press Enter.
- To insert a specific image, hover over the image and click Insert
.
- Optional: To send feedback about the image, click Good suggestion
or Bad suggestion
.
- Optional: To send feedback about the image, click Good suggestion
- You can also:
- Edit the prompt: Click Edit Prompt
.
- Generate more images: At the bottom, click Show more
.
- Edit the prompt: Click Edit Prompt
You can use the Duet AI side panel to generate a new slide.
- On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
- At the top right, click Ask Duet AI
.
- On the side panel, select a prompt or create your own.
- Examples:
- “Create a slide about how to optimally train for a marathon.”
- “Create a slide about how to utilize the SCRUM framework.”
- Examples:
- From the generated slide, you can:
- Get a different version: In the menu at the bottom of the slide, click Retry
.
- Add the slide to your presentation: In the menu at the bottom of the slide, click Insert
.
- Refine the generated slide: On the side panel, write a new prompt.
- Send feedback: In the menu at the bottom of the slide, click Good suggestion
or Bad suggestion
.
- Get a different version: In the menu at the bottom of the slide, click Retry
When you open a presentation that has text, in the Duet AI side panel, you’ll find a summary of your presentation.
You can also use Duet AI to generate text for your presentation.
- On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
- At the top right, click Ask Duet AI
.
- Enter a prompt:
- Examples:
- “Summarize this presentation in 3 sentences.”
- “Create a slide that celebrates a colleague's work anniversary.”
- Examples:
- Press Enter.
- To add the suggested content to the presentation, click Insert
.
- You can also:
- Generate a new suggestion: Click Retry
.
- Send feedback: Click Good suggestion
or Bad suggestion
.
- Generate a new suggestion: Click Retry
You can use Duet AI to reference files from your Drive to generate responses in Slide.
- On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
- At the top right, click Ask Duet AI
.
- To reference a Drive file, enter a prompt with the file name:
- Example: “What are the main points of: Meeting Notes: Core Team sync.”
- To reference your emails from Gmail, on the side panel, enter a prompt.
- Example: “Catch me up on the latest Monthly Review emails.”
- To check which files were used, at the bottom of the response, click Sources.
- You can also:
- Add the text to your presentation: Click Insert
.
- Get a different version: Click Retry
.
- Send feedback: Click Good suggestion
or Bad suggestion
.
- Add the text to your presentation: Click Insert
Give feedback on generated output
Because feedback may be human readable, please do not submit data that contains personal, confidential, or sensitive information.
If you get a suggestion that’s inaccurate or that you feel is unsafe, you can submit feedback. Your feedback can help improve AI-assisted Workspace features and broader Google efforts in AI.
- At the bottom right of the generated text, click Good suggestion
or Bad suggestion
.
- If you select Bad suggestion
, you can select the issue you found and enter additional feedback.
- Optional:
- To review data that will be attached with your feedback, at the bottom, select What data will be attached?
- If you don’t want to include the data with your feedback, uncheck Attach collected data to your feedback to help us improve the product experience.
- Optional:
- Click Next.
- Review additional context that you can share with your feedback.
- If you don’t want to include the additional context with your feedback, uncheck Additional context (content referenced to create outputs).
- Click Submit.

To report a legal issue, create a request.
Clear history with Duet AI side panel
To remove all generated output that you haven’t imported to the presentation, clear your Duet AI history.
You can clear your conversation history on the side panel at any time. To clear the conversation history:
- At the top right of Duet AI side panel, click Clear history
.
- In the pop-up window, click Clear.
You’ll also lose your conversation history:
- If you refresh your browser.
- If you close and reopen the presentation.
- If your computer goes offline.
Turn off the Duet AI side panel
To turn off any of the features on Google Workspace Labs, you must exit Workspace Labs. If you exit, you’ll permanently lose access to all Workspace Labs features, and you won’t be able to rejoin Workspace Labs. Learn more about how to exit Workspace Labs.
