Create images with AI in Google Slides (Workspace Labs)

Important: This article is referring to Google Workspace Labs, which is a trusted tester program for users to try new AI features. Workspace Labs is currently available to trusted testers in US English and may not be available in your country. To check if you have access to Workspace Labs features, open a presentation on Google Slides and look for Help me create an image in the toolbar at the top.

On Google Slides, you can use the “Help me create an image” prompt to create images using artificial intelligence. For example, you can ask Google Slides to create an image of a picnic or an abstract painting.

This feature is currently available on desktop.

Use AI to create an image

  1. On your computer, open a presentation on Google Slides.
  2. Click the slide where you want to add the image.
  3. Choose an option:
    1. At the top, click Insert and then Image and then Help me create an image .
    2. In the toolbar, click Help me create an image .
  4. In the panel on the right, enter a prompt. For example:
    • “A beautiful photograph of a Hawaiian beach at sunset with palm trees in the distance”
    • “A plate of freshly baked blueberry muffins on a wooden kitchen table next to a large window”
    • “Watercolor painting of hydrangeas in a water pitcher”
    Tips:
    • “A futuristic cityscape with skyscrapers and flying cars set at night with HD details and shadows”
    • For better results, consider including the subject, setting, distance to subject, materials, or background. For example: "A close up of a boat made out of wood on a lake surrounded by trees at sunrise."
    • Avoid figurative language in your prompt.
  5. Optional: Select the type of image ratio you want:
    • Square
    • Wide
    • Tall
  6. Optional: You can click Add a style to customize the image you create.
  7. Optional: To create visuals around the content of the slide, click Adaptive .
  8. Click Create to see several suggested images.
  9. Optional: After clicking Create, you can:
    • Send feedback about the suggested image: Under each image, click Good suggestion or Bad suggestion .
    • Edit your prompt: At the top of the panel on the right, click the prompt. Edit your prompt and click Create.
    • See more suggested images: Click View more.
  10. When you’re finished, click Insert.

Use AI to create an adaptive image

An adaptive image is sized to your slide with visuals that wrap around the objects on your slide.

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. Click the slide where you want to add an adaptive image.
    • Make sure it has enough space for it.
  3. At the top, click Insert and then Image and then Help me create an image .
    • Or, in the toolbar, click Help me create an image .
  4. On the right, in the panel, enter a prompt. For example:
    • “A futuristic office space with seamless integration of technology and nature”
    • “A plate of freshly baked blueberry muffins on a wooden kitchen table next to a large window”
    • “Watercolor painting of hydrangeas in a water pitcher”
  5. Select Adaptive .
  6. Optional: To customize the background you create, click Add a style.
  7. Optional: To select a background color, click Include Colors.
  8. Click Create.
  9. Optional: After you click “Create,” you can:
    • Edit your prompt: At the top of the panel, click the prompt. Edit your prompt and click Create.
    • Get more suggested images: Click View more.
  10. To preview, click a generated image.
    • To preview other generated images, next to “Previewing,” click Previous Previous or Next Next.
  11. To add the image to the slide as a background, click Insert as background.
    • To add it as an image, next to “Insert as background,” click the Down arrow and then Insert as image.

  1. Below the generated image, click Good suggestion or Bad suggestion .
  2. If you click Bad suggestion , you can select the issue you found and enter additional feedback.
  3. Click Submit.

To provide general feedback on this feature, at the top, go to Help and then Help Slides improve.

Turn off the “Help me create an image” prompt

To turn off any of the features on Google Workspace Labs you must exit Workspace Labs. If you exit, you will permanently lose access to all Workspace Labs features, and you won’t be able to rejoin Workspace Labs. Learn more about how to exit Workspace Labs.

  • Prompts you enter or select.
  • Image styles you select.
  • Generated images.
  • Your feedback on generated images.
