Use extensions with your TrueView campaign

About extensions

You can use extensions to help show additional information alongside your TrueView ads that can help you increase store visits and transactions. There are two types of extensions available:

  • Location extensions: Location extensions can help people find your business locations. To use location extensions, you need to have a physical location you’re promoting, and that store needs to be listed in a Google My Business account.

  • Affiliate location extensions: Affiliate location extensions let you promote third-party locations, or affiliates, that sell your products. If you sell your products through major retail chains or auto dealerships, you can use affiliate location extensions to help people find nearby stores that sell your products.

Both extension options show a “teaser” of business information alongside your TrueView ad. When a user clicks or taps the extension, it expands to a location page that shows more business information, such as address, phone number, and store hours. The store shown in the extension is selected based on the user’s device location or a location they have shown interest in.

Get started with extensions

You’ll manage all of your extensions from the TrueView Extensions tab in your Display & Video 360 advertiser.

Once you enable either location extensions or affiliate location extensions, the extensions are eligible to appear across all line items in your advertiser that contain an eligible ad format.

Use location extensions

Create a new location extension

Once you’ve linked a Google My Business account, the business listings in that account will automatically sync to Display & Video 360.

If you don’t already have a Google My Business account for your business, you can get started here.

New locations you add to Google My Business may take up to 24 hours to sync to your Display & Video 360 advertiser.

Use a Google My Business account you manage

  1. From your advertiser, expand Resources in the left menu and click TrueView Extensions.

  2. From the Location tab, click New location extension.

  3. If you already manage a Google My Business account with the Google Account you use to sign in to Display & Video 360, you’ll see it as an option. Select this account.

If you want to use a different account from the one you manage, click on the option to Link new account and then follow the instructions below to use a Google My Business account you don’t own.

  4. (Optional) If you don’t want to sync all of the listings from your Google My Business account, select the option to Limit the listings synced with Display & Video 360. You can filter listings based on the business name or labels within Google My Business. You’ll see a count of the listings that match your filter.

  5. Click Create.

Your listings will automatically be imported from Google My Business, and all of the listings will be eligible to show as location extensions with your TrueView ads.

  6. Click Request link once you’ve confirmed that the correct Google My Business account is showing in the preview.

Your request will be sent to the email address for the Google My Business account owner that you selected. You’ll also receive a confirmation email.

Step 2: Import listings

Once the Google My Business account is linked to your Display & Video 360 advertiser, you’ll need to import listings:

Link multiple Google My Business accounts

You can link multiple Google My Business accounts to Display & Video 360, but you can only set location extensions from one account at a time. If you want to import locations from another account, you’ll need to remove your location extensions and start over.

Reporting for TrueView extensions

Reporting for your TrueView extensions is available in the standard TrueView report. You can add the following dimensions to see data specific to extension reporting:

  • Extension

  • Extension Status

  • Extension Type

Basic reporting for TrueView extensions is also available from the TrueView Extensions tab in your Display & Video 360 advertiser. Here you’ll see advertiser-level data for the entire time that your extension has been set, such as:

  • Clicks

  • Impressions

  • Click-through rate

  • Average CPC

Store visits conversions reporting

If visits to your physical locations are important to your business, you can use conversion tracking to help you see how your ad clicks and viewable impressions influence store visits.

Store visit conversions for TrueView in Display & Video 360 are only available to certain advertisers. For example, they are not available to advertisers with sensitive location categories related to healthcare, religion, adult content, and children.

If you’re eligible for store visits conversion reporting, your Display & Video 360 advertiser must also meet the following requirements in order to see data:

  • Use a TrueView-enabled Floodlight activity for conversion tracking; and

  • Have sufficient store visits data to attribute to ad click, TrueView: View, or viewable impressions traffic and pass our user privacy thresholds; and

  • Have an active location extension or affiliate location extension.

Store visits conversion metrics are available for eligible advertisers in the TrueView Conversions report. Learn more about the requirements for store visits conversions.

Removing an extension from your advertiser

You can remove extensions from your advertiser by following these steps:

  1. From your advertiser, expand Resources in the left menu and click TrueView Extensions.

  2. Navigate to either the Location or Affiliate location tab.

  3. Check the box next to your advertiser-level extension.

  4. On the menu that appears, select Action > Remove.

All extensions will be removed from your advertiser and will no longer serve with your TrueView ads.

Note: If you remove all extensions from your advertiser, you won’t be able to track store visits conversions.

Remove a linked Google My Business account

If you’d like to remove the link between a Google My Business account and Display & Video 360, you need to reach out to the owner of the Google My Business account. They’ll be able to remove the link from Google My Business.

Limitations

  • TrueView extensions are available with TrueView in-stream and bumper formats shown in mobile apps.

  • YouTube videos must be public to use with TrueView extensions.

  • You can enable either location extensions or affiliate location extensions per advertiser - not both.
