Audio targeting

Audio content type

You can target audio inventory based on the content type. Display & Video 360 has expanded its audio content type targeting options to align with industry standards and provide more granular control over audio environments.

Audio content types

The following audio content types are available for targeting or exclusion:

  • Music streaming service: Standard streaming music environments (Previously named Streaming music).
  • Live FM/AM broadcast: Live content broadcast over the air but also available via online streaming. (Previously named Online radio).
  • Podcasts: Original, pre-recorded content distributed as episodes in a series.
  • Catch-up radio: A recorded segment of a radio show that was originally broadcast live.
  • Web radio: Live content only available via online streaming, not as an AM/FM broadcast.
  • Video game: Background audio in video games.
  • Text-to-speech: Audio books or website plugins that can read articles.
  • Unknown content type: Target inventory of an unknown feed type. Use this to include content from exchanges that do not categorize audio content by type.

How this impacts your existing campaigns

Your existing line item targeting settings will not be automatically updated to include the new specific feed types.

  • If you want to specifically target or exclude the new feed types (Catch-up radio, Web radio, Video game, or Text-to-speech), you must manually edit your existing audio line items.
  • Line items without explicit audio feed targeting will continue to target all available feed types by default.
  • For feed types that were renamed (such as Online radio changing to Live FM/AM broadcast), your existing targeting will continue to function seamlessly under the new name.

How to use the Audio content type feature

  1. Navigate to the Audio Line Item
  2. Select Audio in the “Targeting” section.
  3. Select or deselect the desired audio feed types using the provided checkboxes
Note: By default all audio content types are targeted. The "Audio" category will show as "Added" in the targeting menu only when the user explicitly modified the Audio targeting and selected some of the audio targeting types instead of all of them.

Reporting updates

The Audio feed type dimension in Display & Video 360 reporting has been extended to include the new content types.

  • New feed types (Web radio, Catch-up radio, Video game, and Text-to-speech).
  • The targeting options map to the actual reporting dimension values as follows:
Targeting Option Reporting Dimension Value
Unknown content type Unknown
Music streaming service Music
Live FM/AM broadcast Broadcast
Podcasts Podcast
Catch-up radio Catch Up Radio
Web radio Web Radio
Video game Video Game
Text-to-speech Text to Speech
Note: If third-party exchanges provide incorrect, missing, or unrecognized values, the system will categorize the inventory as Unknown feed type.

Restrictions

Audio content type targeting is only supported by RTB audio line items. There is no Insertion Order (IO) or Media Plan (MP) level support, and it is not supported for YouTube Audio campaigns.
