Fix Daydream controller problems

If your Daydream controller won't pair, disconnects, or won't update, try the solutions below.

Step 1: Charge your controller

Your controller’s battery might be low. To charge your controller, you’ll need a USB Type-C charger. It might take up to 2 hours to fully charge the controller (or until the status light stays on).

Step 2: Close other apps

  1. On your phone, find your recent apps.
  2. To quit all apps, tap Clear all.
    • On some phones, you first need to swipe to the end of the list.
  3. Open the Daydream app Daydream.

Step 3: Check Bluetooth connectivity

On your phone, turn Bluetooth off, and then on again. If the controller still isn’t pairing, turn off any active Bluetooth connections:

For Android 7.0 devices

  1. Open your phone's Settings app Settings.
  2. Under "Wireless & networks," tap Bluetooth.
  3. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
  4. Disconnect all devices except the controller. For each device, tap the name and tap OK.

For Android 8.0 devices

  1. Open your phone's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Under "Connected devices," tap Bluetooth.
  3. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
  4. Disconnect all devices except the controller. For each device, tap the name and tap OK.

If your controller still isn't working, try the following steps:

Step 4: Clear VR Services app data

  1. On your phone, find your recent apps.
  2. Quit all apps by tapping Clear all.
  3. Open your phone's Settings app Settings.
  4. Tap Apps and then Google VR Services and then Storage and then Clear Data and then OK.
  5. Open the Daydream app Daydream.
  6. Try pairing.
