Set up your Daydream headset and controller

Once you have a Daydream-ready phone, a compatible headset, and have installed the Daydream app, you can set up and use Daydream.

Open the Daydream app for the first time

If you don't already have the Daydream app Daydream, download it from Google Play. Use the app to set up your headset, launch apps, and discover new VR content.

Open Daydream, then follow the setup instructions to pair your headset and controller. After you finish setup, you'll be guided through a short Welcome tutorial.

Install the latest Android and Google VR Services update(s)

You might be asked to install the latest Android updates. Make sure all Android updates are installed before continuing with Daydream.

Please make sure to install all pending Android updates before continuing with Daydream setup. You might also be asked to install the latest Google VR Services updates to run Daydream, as Daydream may not function properly unless all updates are installed.

Enter a form of payment and select a PIN

You’ll be asked to create a Google PIN and add a form of payment during setup. A form of payment is required to use Daydream, but you won't be charged unless you make a purchase. Learn how to add a payment method.

  • Choose a PIN that's easy for you to remember and difficult for others to guess.
  • If you already have a form of payment with Google Play, you'll skip this step.
  • If you forgot or lost your pin, create a new one.

Pair your Daydream controller

During setup, you'll be asked to pair your Daydream controller. Have your controller with you and follow the on-screen steps.

During the controller pairing, you may also be asked to update your controller software. These updates can take up to 5 minutes.

Put your phone in the headset

Follow the on-screen instructions to correctly put your phone in the headset. Make sure the power and volume buttons are facing up.

(Optional) Set up headphones

We recommend headphones that plug into your phone, because Daydream doesn't support Bluetooth headphones at this time.
