Why this issue is happening

For one or more of your products, either CSS product pages or headline offer landing pages provided in your product data direct to a generic landing page rather than the specific landing page for that product.

Some common reasons for why a landing page is generic include:

  • The landing page is missing some of the key elements of your product, such as the title, description, image. Note that the title, description, and images listed for your product on its landing page don’t always need to be identical to the content in your product data, but they should refer to the same product.
  • There are multiple products on the landing page and the main product isn’t prominently displayed.
  • There is a pop-up or an interstitial on your landing page that is obstructing the key elements of your product.
  • Your landing page is under construction, undergoing maintenance or is displaying an error, like a 404.
  • In addition for a headline offer landing page:
  • The landing page is missing some of the key elements of your product price, currency, availability or buy button.
  • The product is out of stock and the headline offer website redirects to the homepage or a similar products page.
  • You should’ve received an email asking you to update your landing page URLs to direct to product-specific landing pages by a certain date.In addition for a CSS product page:
  • The landing page is missing prices and selling conditions for the product offered by at least 2 independent merchants that have this product available for immediate purchase online.

How to fix your issue

  1. Investigate your update process to find what could be causing the problem:
    • Before submitting new products, test some of your links using the URL Inspection Tool, which is available through Google Search Console. If you’re submitting a lot of new product pages, using this tool on a few links can help you detect issues before submitting product data.
    • Make sure you’re updating your landing pages and product data and microdata (if applicable) at the same time.
  2. After you’ve addressed the problem, update the CPP link [cpp_link], CPP mobile link [cpp_mobile_link] and/or Headline offer link [headline_offer_link] attribute in your product data to direct to the correct landing page.
