Using Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML), your users can use their Google Cloud credentials to sign in to enterprise-cloud applications.
Set up SSO via SAML for TextExpander
Here's how to set up Single Sign-On (SSO) via SAML for the TextExpander application.
Step 1: Get Google identity provider (IdP) information-
Sign in to your Google Admin console.
Sign in using an account with super administrator privileges (does not end in @gmail.com).

- In the Set up single sign-on (SSO) section, download the IDP metadata.
In the next step, you send this information to TextExpander via email. After they respond, you return to the Admin console in Step 3 below to finish SSO configuration.
Send an email to TextExpander support at support@smilesoftware.com requesting that SSO be enabled for your account, and attach the IDP metadata file you downloaded in Step 1.
TextExpander will contact you when they've enabled SSO for your account. They'll also send you your account ID, which you need to complete SSO setup in the Admin console in the next step.
Note: TextExpander may provide your account ID as part of a sign-in URL, for example: https://app.textexpander.com/acs/{accountID}.

In the Admin console, go to Menu

Click Add app
Search for apps.
- Enter TextExpander in the search field.
- In the search results, hover over the TextExpander SAML app and click Select.
- On the Google Identity Provider details page, click Continue.
- On the Service provider details page, edit the ACS URL, replacing {uniqueid-provided-by-sp} with your TextExpander account ID (emailed to you by TextExpander support).
- Click Continue.
- On the Attribute mapping page, click the Select field menu and map the following Google directory attributes to their corresponding TextExpander attributes:
Google directory attribute TextExpander attribute Basic Information > First Name firstName Basic Information > Last Name lastName Basic Information > Primary Email email - (Optional) If you want to send a user’s group membership information in the SAML response, enter the group names that are relevant for this app in the Group membership field.
- Under Google groups, click in the Search for a group entry field.
- Type one or more letters of the group name.
- Choose the group name from the list.
- Add additional groups as needed (total groups cannot exceed 75).
- Under App attribute, enter the service provider’s corresponding groups attribute name.
Note: Regardless of how many group names you enter, the SAML response will only include groups that a user is a member of (directly or indirectly). For more information, see About group membership mapping.
- Click Finish.

- Select TextExpander.

Click User access.

To turn a service on or off for everyone in your organization, click On for everyone or Off for everyone, and then click Save.

(Optional) To turn a service on or off for an organizational unit:
- At the left, select the organizational unit.
- To change the Service status, select On or Off.
- Choose one:
- If the Service status is set to Inherited and you want to keep the updated setting, even if the parent setting changes, click Override.
- If the Service status is set to Overridden, either click Inherit to revert to the same setting as its parent, or click Save to keep the new setting, even if the parent setting changes.

(Optional) Turn on the service for a group of users.
Use access groups to turn on a service for specific users within or across your organizational units. Learn more - Ensure that your TextExpander user account email IDs match those in your Google domain.
TextExpander supports both Identity Provider (IdP) initiated and Service Provider (SP) initiated SSO. Follow these steps to verify SSO in either mode:
IdP-initiated

Sign in to your Google Admin console.
Sign in using an account with super administrator privileges (does not end in @gmail.com).

In the Admin console, go to Menu

- Select TextExpander.
- At the top left, click Test SAML login.
TextExpander should open in a separate tab. If it doesn’t, use the information in the resulting SAML error messages to update your IdP and SP settings as needed, then retest SAML login.
SP-initiated
- Navigate to https://app.textexpander.com/ssoSignin and enter your TextExpander account email.
You should be automatically redirected to the Google sign-in page.
- Enter your sign in credentials.
After your sign in credentials are authenticated, you're automatically redirected back to TextExpander.
