Set, cancel or snooze alarms on your Android device

You can make and change alarms in the Clock app on your Android device, Pixel phone or Pixel Tablet.

Manage your alarms

Set alarm time

Important: If you set two alarms too close together, the first one may be cancelled. To make sure that both alarms work, leave a five-minute window between each alarm.

  1. Open your device's Clock app Clock.
  2. Tap Alarm.
  3. Pick an alarm.
    • To add an alarm, tap Add Add.
    • To edit an existing alarm time, tap on its current time.
  4. Set the alarm time.
    1. On the analogue clock: Slide the hand to the hour that you want. Then slide the hand to the minutes that you want.
    2. On the digital clock: Enter the hour and minutes you want.
    3. With the 12-hour format: Tap a.m. or p.m..
  5. Tap OK.
Turn alarm on or off
  1. Open your device's Clock app Clock.
  2. Tap Alarm.
  3. On the alarm you want, tap the On/Off switch.

Tip: If the alarm is set to repeat, this turns all repeats on or off.

Cancel or delete alarm
  1. Open your device's Clock app Clock.
  2. Tap Alarm.
  3. To edit an alarm, tap an alarm block.
  4. To permanently delete the alarm, tap Delete.
Snooze or stop an alarm
  • Snooze: To delay an alarm for 10 minutes, tap Snooze.
  • Stop: To stop an alarm, tap Stop.

Tip: You can change your snooze time and set your device's volume buttons to snooze or dismiss alarms. Learn how to change your Clock app settings.

Customise your alarm sound and notification preferences

Important: If your ringtone is set to silent and vibration is off, your alarm won't go off.

Change alarm sound or song

Use a sound

  1. Open your device's Clock app Clock.
  2. Tap Alarm.
  3. To edit an alarm, tap an alarm block.
  4. Tap on the alarm sound.
  5. Select a sound:
    • Pick a sound from the list of device sounds: Tap it.
    • Use your own sound file: If you've downloaded a sound file to your device, tap Add new and then Your sound file. Learn where to find your files.

Use a song from YouTube Music, Pandora, Spotify or Calm

  1. If you haven't yet, download the YouTube Music, Pandora, Spotify or Calm app. Learn how to download apps.
  2. Open the app and sign in to your account. Learn how to open apps.
  3. Open your device's Clock app Clock.
  4. Tap Alarm.
  5. To edit an alarm, tap an alarm block.
  6. Tap on the alarm sound.
  7. Next to 'Sounds', tap YouTube Music, Pandora, Spotify or Calm.
    • If these options aren't available:
      1. Tap More More.
      2. Install one of these supported apps.
  8. Find a song that you want to use, then tap it.
    • YouTube: To choose a song or album, use a premium account. No-charge accounts don't work with Clock.
    • Pandora (US only): To choose a song, use a premium account. Plus and no-charge accounts can choose stations. No-charge accounts might play ads.
    • Spotify: To choose a song, use a premium account. No-charge accounts can choose playlists and might play ads.
    • Calm: To choose a sound, use a signed-in account.
Change alarm name, repetition or vibration
  1. Open your device's Clock app Clock.
  2. Tap Alarm.
  3. To edit an alarm, tap an alarm block.
    • Name: To name the alarm, tap Alarm name.
    • Repetition: To make the alarm repeat, tap the days of the week.
    • Pause alarm: To pause a scheduled alarm for a scheduled period of days, recurring and enabled alarm, tap and select the dates on the calendar.
    • Vibration: To turn alarm vibrations off or on, tap Vibrate.
Add a Google Assistant routine to an alarm

Make sure that you have:

  1. Open your device’s Clock app Clock.
  2. Tap Alarm.
  3. To edit an alarm, tap an alarm block.
  4. Next to 'Google Assistant routine', tap Add Add.
  5. Choose the actions that you want the Assistant to do. Learn more about Google Assistant routines.
  6. Tap Save.

To change or turn off a Google Assistant routine:

  • Change a routine: Tap Google Assistant routine.
  • Turn off a routine: Next to 'Google Assistant routine', tap Remove .

Fix alarm issues

If you get any of these error messages below, follow the troubleshooting steps.

Error message Troubleshooting steps
'To hear your alarms, turn on Clock notifications in Settings.' To turn on Clock notifications, go to Settings. Learn how to turn on Clock notifications.
'Do Not Disturb silenced your alarm. Allow alarms in DND settings to prevent this in the future.' Review your Do Not Disturb (DND) settings. Learn how to review your DND settings.
'Device vibration is turned off, so you may not feel your alarm. You can turn it on in settings.' Update the alarm's vibration settings. Learn how to update vibration settings.
'Your alarm sound is set to silent. Choose a different sound so that you don't miss an alarm.' Choose a ringtone for the alarm. Learn how to update ringtone settings.
'Your alarm went off but the alarm volume was below 30% and may be too low. Increase the volume so that you don't miss an alarm.' Increase your volume. Learn how to adjust your alarm volume.
'Battery Saver may have prevented your alarm from going off. To hear your alarms, turn off Battery Saver or add Clock as an essential app in Battery Saver settings.' Review your Battery Saver settings. Learn how to review your Battery Saver settings.
