  1. Get the Clock app

    You can use the Clock app on any Android device with Android 4.4 and up.

    Important: Some of these steps only work on Android 14 and up. Learn how to update your Android version.

    Download Clock from Google Play

    1. Open the Google Play Store to the Clock app Clock.
    2. Tap Install.

    Hide a default clock app

    You may want to hide another pre-installed clock app on your device.

    1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
    2. Tap Apps & notifications and then App info.
    3. Tap the clock app that you want to hide.
    4. Tap Uninstall or Disable.

    On some devices, you won't be able to hide pre-installed clock apps.

  2. Set, cancel or snooze alarms on your Android device

    You can make and change alarms in the Clock app on your Android device, Pixel phone or Pixel Tablet.

    Manage your alarms

    Set alarm time

    Important: If you set two alarms too close together, the first one may be cancelled. To make sure that both alarms work, leave a five-minute window between each alarm.

    1. Open your device's Clock app Clock.
    2. Tap Alarm.
    3. Pick an alarm.
      • To add an alarm, tap Add Add.
      • To edit an existing alarm time, tap on its current time.
    4. Set the alarm time.
      1. On the analogue clock: Slide the hand to the hour that you want. Then slide the hand to the minutes that you want.
      2. On the digital clock: Enter the hour and minutes you want.
      3. With the 12-hour format: Tap a.m. or p.m..
    5. Tap OK.
    Turn alarm on or off
    1. Open your device's Clock app Clock.
    2. Tap Alarm.
    3. On the alarm you want, tap the On/Off switch.

    Tip: If the alarm is set to repeat, this turns all repeats on or off.

    Cancel or delete alarm
    1. Open your device's Clock app Clock.
    2. Tap Alarm.
    3. To edit an alarm, tap an alarm block.
    4. To permanently delete the alarm, tap Delete.
    Snooze or stop an alarm
    • Snooze: To delay an alarm for 10 minutes, tap Snooze.
    • Stop: To stop an alarm, tap Stop.

    Tip: You can change your snooze time and set your device's volume buttons to snooze or dismiss alarms. Learn how to change your Clock app settings.

    Customise your alarm sound and notification preferences

    Important: If your ringtone is set to silent and vibration is off, your alarm won't go off.

    Change alarm sound or song

    Use a sound

    1. Open your device's Clock app Clock.
    2. Tap Alarm.
    3. To edit an alarm, tap an alarm block.
    4. Tap on the alarm sound.
    5. Select a sound:
      • Pick a sound from the list of device sounds: Tap it.
      • Use your own sound file: If you've downloaded a sound file to your device, tap Add new and then Your sound file. Learn where to find your files.

    Use a song from YouTube Music, Pandora, Spotify or Calm

    1. If you haven't yet, download the YouTube Music, Pandora, Spotify or Calm app. Learn how to download apps.
    2. Open the app and sign in to your account. Learn how to open apps.
    3. Open your device's Clock app Clock.
    4. Tap Alarm.
    5. To edit an alarm, tap an alarm block.
    6. Tap on the alarm sound.
    7. Next to 'Sounds', tap YouTube Music, Pandora, Spotify or Calm.
      • If these options aren't available:
        1. Tap More More.
        2. Install one of these supported apps.
    8. Find a song that you want to use, then tap it.
      • YouTube: To choose a song or album, use a premium account. No-charge accounts don't work with Clock.
      • Pandora (US only): To choose a song, use a premium account. Plus and no-charge accounts can choose stations. No-charge accounts might play ads.
      • Spotify: To choose a song, use a premium account. No-charge accounts can choose playlists and might play ads.
      • Calm: To choose a sound, use a signed-in account.
    Change alarm name, repetition or vibration
    1. Open your device's Clock app Clock.
    2. Tap Alarm.
    3. To edit an alarm, tap an alarm block.
      • Name: To name the alarm, tap Alarm name.
      • Repetition: To make the alarm repeat, tap the days of the week.
      • Pause alarm: To pause a scheduled alarm for a scheduled period of days, recurring and enabled alarm, tap and select the dates on the calendar.
      • Vibration: To turn alarm vibrations off or on, tap Vibrate.
    Add a Google Assistant routine to an alarm

    Make sure that you have:

    1. Open your device’s Clock app Clock.
    2. Tap Alarm.
    3. To edit an alarm, tap an alarm block.
    4. Next to 'Google Assistant routine', tap Add Add.
    5. Choose the actions that you want the Assistant to do. Learn more about Google Assistant routines.
    6. Tap Save.

    To change or turn off a Google Assistant routine:

    • Change a routine: Tap Google Assistant routine.
    • Turn off a routine: Next to 'Google Assistant routine', tap Remove .
    Tip: If Gemini is your device's default assist app, some Google Assistant features and services won't work. Learn what you can do with your Gemini mobile app.

    Fix alarm issues

    If you get any of these error messages below, follow the troubleshooting steps.

    Error message Troubleshooting steps
    'To hear your alarms, turn on Clock notifications in Settings.' To turn on Clock notifications, go to Settings. Learn how to turn on Clock notifications.
    'Do Not Disturb silenced your alarm. Allow alarms in DND settings to prevent this in the future.' Review your Do Not Disturb (DND) settings. Learn how to review your DND settings.
    'Device vibration is turned off, so you may not feel your alarm. You can turn it on in settings.' Update the alarm's vibration settings. Learn how to update vibration settings.
    'Your alarm sound is set to silent. Choose a different sound so that you don't miss an alarm.' Choose a ringtone for the alarm. Learn how to update ringtone settings.
    'Your alarm went off but the alarm volume was below 30% and may be too low. Increase the volume so that you don't miss an alarm.' Increase your volume. Learn how to adjust your alarm volume.
    'Battery Saver may have prevented your alarm from going off. To hear your alarms, turn off Battery Saver or add Clock as an essential app in Battery Saver settings.' Review your Battery Saver settings. Learn how to review your Battery Saver settings.

  3. Set a bedtime schedule

    To manage a consistent sleep schedule and prepare for bed, use the Clock app.

    Set a bedtime and wake-up time

    When you set a bedtime and wake-up time, you can review how much sleep you’ll get. The alarm set in the Bedtime tab will also show in the Alarm tab.

    1. Open the Clock app Clock.
    2. Tap Bedtime.
    3. On the 'Schedule' card, tap the time under Bedtime.
    4. Set a bedtime and the days to use your Bedtime routine.
    5. Select any of the following options:
    6. Tap the time under Wake up.
    7. Set a wake-up time and the days to use your wake-up alarm.
    8. Select any of the following options:
      • Sunrise alarm: Slowly brighten your screen 15 minutes before your alarm starts.
      • Sound: Choose your alarm sound.
      • Vibrate: Turn on vibration for the alarm.
      • Google Assistant routine: Choose what you want the Assistant to do when you wake up. Learn more about routines.
    Listen to peaceful sounds
    You can play soothing music from a variety of media apps to help you fall asleep. Sleep sounds only play when you turn them on.
    1. Open the Clock app Clock
    2. Tap Bedtime.
    3. In 'Sleep sounds', tap the current sound or Choose another sound.
    4. Choose what app to use and which sound you want. You can also use sounds on your device. Learn how to use media from other apps.
    Check your recent bedtime activity

    Important: To use this feature, you must use the Digital Wellbeing app.

    You can view which apps you use during your scheduled bedtime and an estimate of time spent in bed. Time spent in bed is based on when your phone remained motionless in a dark room. For best results, your device should be turned on and in your bedroom during your scheduled bedtime.

    • To show you this activity: The Clock and Digital Wellbeing apps access your daily app usage, motion and light detection during your scheduled bedtime, and your time zone history.
    • To see more details about a specific day: Tap the time duration shown above the graph, like 18 minutes. You can also find app icons next to the time spent. If you didn’t use your device during your scheduled bedtime, it’ll say 'Didn’t use phone'.  
    • No data in the chart: Make sure that you’ve turned on 'Use bedtime schedule' and that you’ve given permission to the Clock app to use your data. To manage permissions, on the 'Recent bedtime activity' card, tap Menu More and then Manage data.

    Check your cough and snore data on Pixel phones

    Important: The Digital Wellbeing app is not intended to be used for medical purposes. It is intended to provide information that can help you find a balance with technology that feels right for you. If you have any concerns about your health, please talk to a healthcare provider. Google does not guarantee or warrant that this feature can be used to achieve particular results.

    Check your data from your clock

    1. Open your phone’s clock.
    2. Tap Bedtime .

    Tip: If this is your first time using the Bedtime mode feature, under 'Show cough and snore activity', tap Continue And then Allow.

    Tip: When you tap Bedtime , you can switch between Bedtime activity and Cough and snore.

    Check your data from Digital Wellbeing

    1. On your phone, tap the Settings app.
    2. Tap Digital Wellbeing and parental controls.
    3. Under 'Show cough and snore activity', tap Continue.

    Tip: The next time you open your Digital Wellbeing app, you'll find your cough and snore data under 'Bedtime mode'.

    Search for your data

    1. From your phone's home screen, tap Search.
    2. Enter 'cough'.
    3. To open the Digital Wellbeing app, tap Cough and snore.

    Erase your data

    Important: To use this feature, you must use the Digital Wellbeing app.

    To erase your device usage data, bedtime sensor data and time zone history, remove the permission to use the information:

    1. Open the Clock app Clock
    2. Tap Bedtime.
    3. Next to 'Recent bedtime activity', tap More More.
    4. Tap Manage data
    5. Choose which data you want to erase by tapping any of the following:
      • Daily device usage data.
      • Bedtime sensor data.
      • Time zone history.
      • Clock: You can keep permission in the Digital Wellbeing app when you remove the data from the Clock app.
    Check your upcoming events for tomorrow

    Important: This feature isn’t available for calendars with work or school accounts.

    To set your alarm before any events on the next day, use the calendar at the bottom of the 'Bedtime' tab. You can connect the 'Upcoming events' card to your Google Calendar by allowing access to your calendar when you use Bedtime mode. All the calendars that you view in Google Calendar will also show in the 'Bedtime' tab.

    Keep your screen dark at bedtime
    You can prevent your screen from being always on while you're in bedtime mode.
    1. Open your phone's Settings app. 
    2. Tap Digital Wellbeing and parental controls and then Bedtime mode and then Customise.
    3. Turn off Keep the screen dark.
    Add your local weather forecast to an alarm
    You can see weather info when your alarm goes off.
    1. Open your device's Clock app Clock.
    2. To add an alarm, at the bottom, tap Add plus.
    3. Select Weather forecast.
      • When you stop your alarm, the forecast will be displayed.

    Tip: Make sure that your Clock app has access to your location.

    Switch between analogue and digital

    1. Open your phone's Clock app Clock.
    2. Tap More More and then Settings and then Style.
    3. Choose Analogue or Digital.

    Change the clock style with the latest Android version
    1. On your phone's home screen, touch and hold an empty space.
    2. Tap Wallpaper and style and then Lock screen.
    3. Above the caption 'Settings Clock colour and size', swipe left or right to see style options.
    4. Tap Colour and select the colour that you want.
      Tip: To make the colour lighter or darker, use the slider.
    5. Tap Size and select the size that you want.
      • Dynamic: Clock size changes according to lock screen content
      • Small
    6. To save your style changes, tap the left arrow Back.

    Show your clock dimmed on a blank screen

    1. Open your phone's Clock app Clock.
    2. Tap More More and then Screen saver.
    3. To wake your screen, tap it.

    Tip: You can keep your dimmed clock on overnight.

  5. Set time, date and time zone

    You can change your clock’s settings, including the date, time and time zone. You can set how your alarms and timers work and add clocks for other cities.

    Change time and time zone

    1. Open your device's Clock app Clock.
    2. Tap More More and then Settings.
      • To pick your home time zone: Tap Home time zone.
      • To add a clock for home while in another time zone: Turn on Automatic home clock.
      • To automatically update the time: Tap Change date and time. Turn Automatic date and time on.
      • To set a time zone automatically: Tap Change date and time. Under 'Time zone', turn Automatic time zone on.

    Important:

    • Your device may use location to determine your time zone.
      • If 'Use location' is turned off, your device location won’t be used to detect your time zone.
      • If 'Use location' is turned on, your device location may be used to detect your time zone.
    • Some devices only support using location to set the time zone, like Wifi-only tablets. These don't have a 'Use location' setting.
    • To set a time zone manually: Tap Change date and time and then Time zone.
      • If present: Turn off Set automatically.
      • Tap Time zone and select your time zone.

    Tip: Only some devices let you automatically set the time zone.

    Change alarm settings

    1. Open your device's Clock app Clock.
    2. Tap More MoreAnd then Settings.
    3. Under 'Alarms':
      • Choose how long your alarm rings: Tap Silence after.
      • Choose how long 'snoozing' delays an alarm: Tap Snooze length.
      • Change your alarm’s volume: Use the 'Alarm volume' slider.
      • Have an alarm become louder over time: Tap Gradually increase volume.
      • Choose what the volume buttons do: Tap Volume buttons. They can control volume, snooze an alarm or dismiss an alarm.
      • Pick what day your week starts on: Tap Start week on.

    Change timer settings

    1. Open your device's Clock app Clock.
    2. Tap More MoreAnd then Settings.
    3. Under 'Timers':
      • Pick the ringtone that plays when the timer ends: Tap Timer sound.
      • Make the timer sound become louder over time: Tap Gradually increase volume.
      • Have the timer vibrate: Tap Timer vibrate.

    Tip: Not all devices have a timer vibrate option.

    Add clocks for other cities

    1. Open your device's Clock app Clock.
    2. Tap World clock.
    3. At the bottom, tap Add Add.
    4. Type the name of a city in the search bar, then tap the city that you want to add.
      • Reorder a city: Touch and hold a city, then move it up or down in the list.
      • Delete a city: Swipe to the left or right on the city that you want to delete.

    Add a clock

    1. Touch and hold any empty section of a Home screen.
    2. At the bottom of the screen, tap Widgets.
    3. Touch and hold a clock widget.
