Display settings for Chromecast with Google TV and Google TV Streamer

Learn how to adjust the screen size and resolution of your Chromecast with Google TV (HD), Chromecast with Google TV (4K) or Google TV Streamer (4K).

Note: To change the screen brightness, check the TV manufacturer's instructions.

To get started, open your 'Display and Sound' settings:

  1. Turn on your Google streaming device and then at the top right of your TV screen, go to All settings .
  2. Select Display and sound.

You can adjust the following display settings, depending on the features available on your TV:

  • Resolution: Select your preferred screen resolution.
  • Text scaling: Enlarge or decrease the onscreen text size.
  • Dynamic range and colour format: Select your preferred formats.
  • Match content frame rate: Use this setting to allow your streaming device to match the frame rate to the source content you're viewing.

Advanced display settings:

  • Allow game mode: Game mode reduces latency and allows a faster game response time.
  • Format selection: Choose whether to select HDR formats manually or let apps automatically select an available format.

Troubleshoot display settings

My non-HDR video looks too saturated

Your streaming device's HDR settings are automatically turned on, so the colours in your video might appear too saturated if you play SDR content. To fix the colour, you need to turn on Match content.

HDR video output isn’t working at all

Some TVs may require the HDMI signal format to be set to 'enhanced mode' to support HDR video output. Check your TV display settings to see if 'enhanced mode' is turned on (this may be labelled differently depending on the TV model).
