Sign in multiple people at the same time

If your Chromebook has more than one account added, you can easily switch between them without having to sign out of one and sign in to another. You can even move windows between people.

Sign in another person

Before you can sign in another person, be sure you've added the second person to your Chromebook. Then follow these steps:

  1. Make sure a user is already signed in to the Chromebook.
  2. Click the status area, where the active user's picture appears.
  3. Click the active user's Google account email.
  4. Click Sign in another user.
  5. You'll see a reminder to use the feature only with users you trust. Click OK.
  6. Pick a user and enter the user's password to add it to the active list. You can add up to 4 users.

Note: If you're using your Chromebook at work or school, you might not be able to pick from all available users.

Switch between accounts you're signed in to

After you've added multiple users, you can switch between them:

  1. Click the status area, where the active user's picture appears.
  2. Click the user you'd like to switch to.

All active users share some settings, such as saved networks. Other settings, like profile pictures and bookmarks, are specific to each profile.

Move windows between people

You can move windows between the accounts that are signed in:

  1. Right-click the top of the browser window you want to move. Don’t click a tab.
  2. Click Move window to and select the account where you’d like to move the window.

Note: When you move windows between people, some windows and boxes may be split between desktops.

Sign out of an account

If you're signed in to multiple accounts on your Chromebook, you can't sign out one by one. You'll need to sign out of all accounts at the same time.

  1. Click the status area, where your account picture appears.
  2. Click your Google account email.
  3. Click Sign out all to sign out of all of your users.

Note: If you’re a Chromebook administrator at your organization, you can learn how to manage multiple sign-in access.
