When you’re done using your Chromebook, you can sign out, put it to sleep, or turn it off.
Sign out
To let someone else use your Chromebook, or to switch accounts:
- At the bottom right, select the time.
- Click Sign out.
- If there's no "Sign out," click Power Sign out.
Put your Chromebook to sleep
- To save battery power while your Chromebook is on, you can put it to sleep by closing the lid.
- If your Chromebook converts into a tablet, press the power button.
Important: If you use your Chromebook at work or school, you might not be able to change your sleep settings. Contact your administrator for more help.
Keep your Chromebook awakeTo have your Chromebook stay awake when you aren’t using it:
- At the bottom right, select the time.
- Select Settings .
- On the left, select Device.
- Select Power.
- Under "When idle," next to "While inactive and plugged in" and "While inactive and on battery," select Keep display on.
To keep your Chromebook awake when the lid is closed:
- At the bottom right, select the time.
- Select Settings .
- On the left, select Device Power.
- Turn off Sleep when cover is closed.
- On Chromebooks: Open the lid, then press any key or swipe the touchpad.
- On Chromeboxes: Move the mouse.
- On tablets: Press the Power button.
Turn off your Chromebook
To turn off your Chromebook completely, try one of these options:
- At the bottom right, select the time. Select Power .
- From the menu that opens, select Shut down.
- Press and hold the Power key for 3 seconds.
- Press and hold the Power button until you find a menu to Power off or Sign out.
Restart your Chromebook
- On your Chromebook, at the bottom right, select the time.
- On the panel that opens, select Power .
- From the menu that opens, select Restart.
Switch profiles
If you have different accounts on the same Chromebook, you can switch profiles.
- On your Chromebook, at the bottom right, select the time.
- Select the profile that you’re currently logged in as.
- Select the other profile or add a new profile.
