Manage bookmarks

You can edit, delete, and organize the webpages you bookmark to make it easier to find them.

You can also update your bookmarks across your devices so that they show up in Chrome whenever you log in.

Manage bookmarks on your computer

Edit bookmark details

You can edit your bookmarks to change their titles or to add notes. You can fit more items into your bookmarks bar if you shorten their names.

  1. In the upper right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Click Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. Hover over the bookmark you want to edit.
  4. Click the drop-down arrow at the end of the row. If you see colorful tiles instead of rows, follow the alternate instructions below.
  5. Click Edit.
  6. Edit the name or web address of your bookmark.
Delete bookmarks

You can delete a single bookmark or several bookmarks at once.

Note: Once you delete a bookmark, you can’t get it back.

Delete one bookmark

  1. In the upper right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Choose Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. Hover your cursor over the bookmark or folder you want to delete.
  4. Click the drop-down arrow at the end of the row. If you see colorful tiles instead of rows, follow the alternate instructions below.
  5. Click Delete.

Delete multiple bookmarks

  1. In the upper right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Click Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. Hold down the shift key while you click the bookmarks. If that doesn’t work, follow the alternate instructions below.
  4. Click the drop-down arrow at the end of the row.
  5. Click Delete.
Organize bookmarks

If you’re using Chrome on a computer, you can organize your bookmarks and file them in custom folders.

Alphabetize bookmarks

  1. In the upper right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Click Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. Browse to the folder where you want to alphabetize your bookmarks.
  4. Above your bookmarks, click Organize. If you don’t see Organize, follow the alternate instructions below.
  5. Click Reorder by Title. Now when you open the Chrome menu and click Bookmarks, you’ll see your bookmarks listed in alphabetical order.

Create a bookmark folder

  1. In the upper right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Click Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. On the left side of the page, click the Folders drop-down arrow. If you see a New button, follow the alternate instructions below.
  4. Click Add Folder, then name your folder.
  5. Drag any bookmarks into your folder. Shift-click to pick more than one item.

Delete a bookmark folder

You can delete a bookmark folder at any time. This will delete all of the bookmarks in it and you won’t be able to get them back.

  1. In the upper right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Click Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. Hover your cursor over the folder you want to delete.
  4. Click the drop-down arrow at the end of the row. If you see colorful tiles instead of rows, follow the alternate instructions below.
  5. In the menu that appears, click Delete. This will permanently delete all the bookmarks in that folder.

Rename a bookmark folder

  1. In the upper right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Click Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. Hover your cursor over the folder you want to delete.
  4. Click the drop-down arrow at the end of the row. If you see colorful tiles instead of rows, follow the alternate instructions below.
  5. In the menu that appears, click Rename, then type the folder’s new name.

Alternate instructions for computers

If you’ve tried some of the steps above and they haven’t worked, you might be using a more recent version of Chrome.

Note: These alternate instructions only work if you have fewer than 5,000 bookmarks.

Edit bookmark details

You can easily edit a bookmark's name and web address:

  1. In the upper right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Click Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. Under "All items," find the bookmark you want to delete.
  4. Next to the bookmark's title, click the menu icon Menu.
  5. Click Edit.
  6. Click any text in the tile to edit it.

Delete one bookmark

  1. In the upper right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Click Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. Find the bookmark tile you want to delete.
  4. Next to the bookmark's title, click the menu icon Menu.
  5. Click Delete.

Delete multiple bookmarks

  1. In the upper right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Click Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager. You’ll see a square tile for each bookmark.
  3. Click on the screen and drag to draw a box around the tiles that you want to delete.
  4. In the upper right corner of the page, click Delete.

You can also click Edit in the upper right corner of the page and check each tile you want to delete.

Undo delete

Right after you delete a bookmark in the Bookmark Manager, you'll see a message at the top of the page that says "Item deleted. Undo." You can click Undo to bring back your bookmark.

Once this message disappears, you can’t get your bookmark back.

Alphabetize your bookmarks

In the version of Chrome you're using, you can't alphabetize your bookmarks automatically. There are other ways to find a bookmark quickly and easily:

  • Use the search bar at the top of the Bookmarks Manager.
  • Use autofolders, which automatically organize your bookmarks by topic, like "Tokyo" or "Photography.” Right now, you can’t edit or delete these suggestions.
Create a bookmark folder
  1. In the upper right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Click Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. On the left side of the page, click the large New button.
  4. Click New folder.
  5. Fill out the name field.
  6. Click Create folder.
Delete a bookmark folder
  1. In the upper right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Click Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. To show your folders, click the arrow next to Folders on the left side of the page.
  4. Click the folder you want to delete. If the folder you want to rename is a subfolder, browse to it.
  5. To delete the folder, click the Delete folder button at the upper right corner of the page.
Rename a bookmark folder
  1. In the upper right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Click Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. To show your folders, click the arrow next to Folders on the left side of the page.
  4. Click the folder you want to rename. If the folder you want to rename is a subfolder, browse to it.
  5. Click on the name of the folder at the top of the page. Type a new name for the folder into the text field.
  6. Press Enter to save the name.

Edit bookmark details

You can easily edit a bookmark's name and web address:

  1. Touch the Chrome menu icon Menu.
  2. Touch Bookmarks.
  3. On the bookmark you’d like to edit, touch the menu icon Menu.
  4. Touch Edit and enter your changes in the form.
  5. When you’re done, save your changes by touching the checkmark Chrome mobile checkmark icon.
Delete bookmarks

You can delete one or more bookmarks at a time:

  1. Open the Chrome menu Menu.
  2. Touch Bookmarks.
  3. Touch and hold one bookmark you want to delete.
  4. Touch other bookmarks that you want to delete.
  5. Touch the trash can Chrome mobile trash can icon.

Undo delete

Right after you delete a bookmark in Bookmark Manager, you'll see a message at the top of the page that says "Item deleted. Undo." You can click Undo to bring back your bookmark.

Once this message disappears, you can’t get your bookmark back.

Move bookmarks

You can move a single bookmark or several bookmarks at once:

  1. Open the Chrome menu Menu.
  2. Touch Bookmarks.
  3. Touch and hold one bookmark that you want to move.
  4. Then touch any other bookmarks that you want to move.
  5. In the upper right hand corner of the screen, touch the move folder icon Chrome mobile move folder icon .
  6. Touch the folder you want to move them to.
