Manage bookmarks

You can edit, delete, and organize the webpages you bookmark. Learn how to bookmark a webpage.

Edit bookmark details

You can easily edit a bookmark's name and URL. Here's how:

Computer
  1. In the top-right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Select Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. Hover over the bookmark you want to edit.
  4. Click the drop-down arrow at the end of the row.

  5. Select Edit from the menu.
  6. Edit the name or URL of your bookmark.

Tip: You can fit more items into your bookmarks bar if you shorten their names.

Mobile device

To edit a bookmark, follow these steps in the Chrome app on your mobile device:

  1. Open the Chrome menu.
  2. Touch Bookmarks.
  3. Touch and hold the bookmark you want to edit.
  4. Touch Edit bookmark.

Delete bookmarks

You can delete a bookmark, or multiple bookmarks at once. Keep in mind that deleted bookmarks cannot be recovered.

Computer

Delete a specific bookmark

  1. In the top-right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Select Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. Hover over the bookmark or folder you want to delete.
  4. Click the drop-down arrow at the end of the row.

  5. Select Delete.

Delete multiple bookmarks

  1. In the top-right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Select Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. Shift-click the bookmarks you want to delete.

    If this isn't working, try using the alternate instructions at the end of this article.

  4. Click the drop-down arrow at the end of the row.
  5. Select Delete.
Mobile device

To delete a bookmark, follow these steps in the Chrome app on your mobile device:

  1. Open the Chrome menu.
  2. Touch Bookmarks.
  3. Touch and hold the bookmark you want to delete.
  4. Touch Delete bookmark.

Organize bookmarks (computer only)

If you are using Chrome on a computer, the tips below will help you reorder your bookmarks or file them in custom folders.

Alphabetize bookmarks

You can organize your bookmarks in alphabetical order. Here's how:

  1. In the top-right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Select Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. Optional: In the left-hand menu, click the folder you'd like to organize.
  4. Above your bookmarks, click Organize.

  5. Select Reorder by Title.

Now, when you go to Chrome menu Chrome menu > Bookmarks, they'll be listed in alphabetical order.

Create a bookmark folder

You can organize your bookmarks into folders. Here's how:

  1. In the top-right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu .
  2. Select Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. In left-hand menu, click the Folders drop-down arrow.

  4. Click Add Folder.
  5. Name your folder.
  6. Drag any bookmark(s) into your folder. You can shift-click multiple items.
Delete a bookmark folder

You can delete a bookmark folder at any time. This will also delete the bookmarks contained in it.

  1. In the top-right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Select Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. Hover over the folder you want to delete.
  4. Click the drop-down arrow at the end of the row.

  5. In the menu that appears, select Delete. This will permanently delete all the bookmarks contained within the folder.
Rename a bookmark folder

You can edit the name of a bookmark folder at any time. Here's how:

  1. In the top-right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Select Bookmarks.
  3. Select Bookmark Manager.
  4. Hover over the folder you want to delete.
  5. Click the drop-down arrow at the end of the row.

  6. In the menu that appears, select Rename.

Other ways to manage bookmarks

Alternate directions

If some of the steps above don't apply, you're probably using a more recent version of Chrome. These directions will help you navigate what's different.

Delete bookmarks

Delete a specific bookmark

  1. In the top-right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Select Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. Find the bookmark tile you want to delete.
  4. Next to the bookmark's tile, click the menu icon .
  5. Select Delete.

Delete multiple bookmarks

  1. In the top-right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Select Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. Drag a box around the tiles that you want to delete.
  4. In the top-right corner of the page, click Delete.

You can also click Edit In the top-right corner of the page and check each tile you want to delete.

Undo delete

Immediately after you delete a bookmark in Bookmark Manager, you'll see a message at the top of the page that says "Item deleted. Undo." You can click Undo to bring back your bookmark.

Once this message disappears, you'll no longer have the option to undo the deletion.

Edit bookmark details

You can easily edit a bookmark's name and URL. Here's how:

  1. In the top-right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Select Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. Under "All items," find the bookmark you want to delete.
  4. Next to the bookmark's title, click the menu icon .
  5. Select Edit.
  6. Click any text field in the tile to edit it.
Alphabetize your bookmarks

In the version of Chrome you're using, you can't alphabetize your bookmarks automatically. However, there are ways to find a bookmark quickly and easily:

  • Use the search bar at the top of the Bookmarks Manager to find what you're looking for.
  • Use autofolders, which automatically organize your bookmarks by topic (e.g. "Tokyo" or "Photography"). At this time, you cannot edit or delete autofolder suggestions.
Create a bookmark folder
  1. In the top-right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Select Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. In left-hand menu, click the red New button.
  4. Click New folder.
  5. Fill out the name field.
  6. Click Create folder.
Delete or edit a bookmark folder
  1. In the top-right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Select Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. Go to the left-hand menu.
  4. To show your folders, click the drop-down arrow next to Folders .
  5. Hover over the folder you want to edit or delete.
  6. At the end of the folder, click the menu icon .
  7. In the drop-down menu that opens, click the Edit button.
  8. Choose Delete or Edit, depending on the action you want to take.
Rename a bookmark folder
  1. In the top-right corner of the browser toolbar, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  2. Select Bookmarks > Bookmark Manager.
  3. Go to the left-hand menu.
  4. To show your folders, click the drop-down arrow next to Folders .
  5. Click the folder you want to rename.
  6. After the folder opens, click its name at the top of the page (above the profile picture of whoever created it).
  7. Type a new name for the folder into the text field.
  8. Press Enter to save the name.

Manage autofolders

Autofolders organizes your bookmarks for you, automatically. At this time, these are suggestions that you cannot edit or delete.
