Make Chrome your default browser

If you like how Google Chrome works, you can make it your default browser so links you click on your computer will automatically open in Google Chrome.

Set Chrome as your default web browser

Mac computer
  1. Open Chrome.
  2. In the top right, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. In the "Default browser" section, click Make Google Chrome the default browser.
    If you don't see the button, Google Chrome is already your default browser.
Windows 10

Users who recently upgraded to Windows 10 and can't find Chrome

  1. Click the start menu .
  2. In the search box, type "Chrome" and press Enter.
  3. Click the Chrome search result to open.
  4. You'll be prompted to set Chrome as your default browser. Click on Yes to finish.

If you're not prompted to set Chrome as your default, follow the steps below.

Users with new Windows 10 computers and want Chrome as your default browser

  1. Download and install Chrome.
  2. On your computer, click the start menu .
  3. Select PC Settings gear .
  4. Click on System > Default Apps.
  5. Under "Web browser," click your current browser, typically Microsoft Edge.
  6. In the "Choose App" pop-up that appears, click Google Chrome.

Windows 8 and below
  1. Download and install Chrome.
  2. Click on the Start button, then click Control Panel.
  3. Click Programs > Default Programs > Set your default programs.
  4. In the panel on the left, select Google Chrome.
  5. Click Set this program as default.
  6. Click Ok.

Change the default browser

If you don't want Google Chrome to be your default browser anymore, set another browser as the default.
