Change Chrome languages & translate webpages

You can change the language Chrome uses and have Chrome translate webpages for you.

Translate webpages in Chrome

When you come across a page written in a language you don't understand, you can use Chrome to translate the page.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Chrome app Chrome.
  2. Go to a webpage written in another language.
  3. At the bottom, tap Translate.
  4. Chrome will translate the webpage this one time.
    • To always translate from this language, switch on the "Always translate [language]" setting.
  5. Tap Done.

Not working? Try refreshing the webpage. If you still can't tap Translate, the language might not be available for translation.

Change your default translation settings

By default, Chrome offers to translate pages written in a language you don't understand.

Turn off translation

You can control whether Chrome will offer to translate webpages.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Chrome app Chrome.
  2. At the top right, tap More More and then Settings.
  3. Tap Content settings and then Google Translate.
  4. Turn off Google Translate.
  5. Tap Done.
Undo "always translate" or "never translate" for a language

If you chose to always translate a language but you've changed your mind, you can delete your translation preferences.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Chrome app Chrome.
  2. At the top right, tap More More and then Settings.
  3. Tap Content settings and then Google Translate.
  4. Tap Reset Translate Settings.
  5. Tap Done.
