In the side panel of your computer, you can find:
- Reading list
- Bookmarks
- History
- Google Search and more
Manage side panel
- To resize the side panel: On the side of the panel, select and hold Drag .
- To change the location of the side panel:
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- Select More Settings Appearance.
- Under 'Side panel', select the side that you want the panel to open.
- To close the side panel: At the top right, select Close .
You can pin a specific side panel in Chrome. You can pin:
- Search
- Reading list
- Bookmarks
- History
- Reading mode
Pin a specific side panel
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- Go to a website.
- At the top right, select More .
- To pin:
- Google Search: Select Search this page with Google.
- Reading list: Select Bookmarks and lists Reading list Show reading list.
- Bookmarks: Select Bookmarks and lists Show all bookmarks.
- History: Select History Grouped history.
- Reading mode: Select More tools Reading mode.
- Next to the icon name, click Pin to toolbar .
- To the left of Profile , Google Search , Bookmark , Reading mode , Reading list or History becomes available.
Unpin a specific side panel
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- To the left of Profile , you can select:
- Search
- Reading list
- Bookmarks
- History
- Reading mode
- Next to the icon name, select Unpin from the toolbar .
Tip: You can also right-click on an icon and select Unpin.
Search web pages with the Google Search side panel
With the Google Search side panel, you can access more information about the sites that you browse and the search tools that you use.
While on a site, open the Google Search side panel to know key points from articles and other web pages.
To search a web page with the Google Search side panel:
- On your computer, open Chrome.
- Go to a website.
- At the top right, select More Search this page with Google.
- To learn more about the text and images that you find, enter keywords from the web page.
Tips:
- When you search an image with Google Lens, the search results open in the side panel. Learn how to search the web with images.
- When you highlight text, the results open in the side panel when you right-click and select Search Google for [word].
- To open results in a new tab, select Search Google for [word] in new tab.
- Manage the Google Search icon in your toolbar.
