Fix problems with Chrome sync

You might be having problems syncing your info on Chrome if you get a sync error or if you've made changes to your synced data but don't see it on other devices.

First, try to see what caused the problem

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, look at More More. If Chrome found a sync error, the icon will be orange.
  3. Click More More.
  4. Click the error.
  5. Follow the instructions to fix the problem.

Next, try these tips

If the steps above don’t help, try some of these easy fixes:

Sign in to Chrome again. If you updated your Google Account recently, that could be causing the problem.

Disconnect and reconnect your Google Account to Chrome.

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More More and then Settings.
  3. Click Disconnect your Google Account.
  4. Close and quit Chrome completely, then re-open Chrome.
  5. Sign in to Chrome and turn sync back on.

Update your passphrase. If you’ve set a sync passphrase on one computer, you’ll need to enter the same passphrase on all of your other computers you want to sync.

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More More and then Settings.
  3. At the bottom, click Advanced sync settings.
  4. You'll see one of the following:
    • “Your data was encrypted with your Google password.” If you see this message, enter your previous Google Account name and password.
    • “Your data was encrypted with a sync passphrase.” If you see this message, enter the sync passphrase that you created.

Update Chrome. Sometimes, Chrome could have a hard time syncing if you're on an older version of the browser. Update to the newest version.

Chromebook users: Talk to your administrator

If you're using a Chromebook at work, school, or another group, your organization might change some of your sync settings. If you have problems, contact your administrator.
