Change site permissions

You can set permissions for a website without changing your default settings.

Change settings for all sites

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chrome app Chrome.
  2. To the right of the address bar, tap More More and then Settings.
  3. Under "Advanced," tap Site settings.
  4. Tap the permission you want to update.
Learn about permissions that can be changed
  • All sites: Review all the sites that have specific permissions.
  • Cookies: Cookies are files created by sites you visit. They make your online experience easier and save browsing information. Learn how to manage cookies.
  • Location: By default, the sites you go to must ask to get your exact location information. Learn how to share your location.
  • Camera and microphone: Sites can ask to use your camera and microphone. Learn how to use your camera and microphone.
  • Notifications: Some sites, like Google Calendar, can show notifications. By default, the sites you go to must ask to show notifications. Learn more about notifications.
  • JavaScript: JavaScript helps make sites interactive.
  • Pop-ups: By default, pop-ups are blocked from showing up automatically. Learn how to manage pop-ups.
  • Ads: Choose whether to get ads on sites that have intrusive ad experiences.
  • Background sync: If your device goes offline during a task, like a chat message or photo upload, some sites can finish the task after the device is back online. The sync will happen in the background, even if you leave the website.
  • Media: Manage how your phone handles some types of content:
    • Protected content: Some sites need information about your device before they can show you copyrighted content, like music or movies. You can allow or block website access to your device information. Learn more about protected content.
    • Autoplay: When you go to a site with a video, you can choose whether the muted video will play automatically.
  • Sound: By default, sites are allowed to play sounds.

  • Storage: Find how much local device storage has been used by a site.
  • Bluetooth: Sites usually connect to Bluetooth devices to allow a site to record and show information about the device. Learn more about Bluetooth device connection.

  • Desktop site: You can tell Chrome to request and display the desktop version of sites on your mobile device or tablet.

Change settings for a site

You can allow or block permissions for a specific site. The site will use the permissions you set instead of the default settings.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chrome app Chrome.
  2. Go to a site.
  3. To the left of the address bar, tap Lock Lock and then Permissions.
  4. Tap the permission you want to update.
    • To change a setting, select it.
    • To clear the site’s settings, tap Reset permissions.
Tip: When you change a setting on a site, the icon next to the site name briefly changes to the icon of the setting. For example, if you change a site’s location access, the site’s icon changes to the Location pin .
