Manage your passwords

If you enter a new password on a site, Chrome asks to save it. To accept, click Save.
  • ​To view the password that Chrome will save: Click Preview.
    • If there are multiple passwords on the page: Click More Down arrow. From the dropdown, select the password you want to save.
  • If your username is blank or incorrect: Next to "Username," enter the username you want to save.
  • If you want to save a different password: Next to “Password,” enter the password you want to save.

Change permissions for sites you visit

  1. ​On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More More and then Settings. 
  3. Click Privacy and security and then Site settings.
  4. Select the permission you want to update.

Block or allow notifications from sites

By default, Chrome alerts you whenever a website, app, or extension wants to send you notifications. You can change this setting at any time.

​To allow or block notifications from all sites:

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click More More and then Settings
  3. Click Privacy and security and then Site settings and then Notifications.
  4. Choose to block or allow notifications:
    • To allow or block all notifications: Turn Notifications on or off. Sites can ask to send notifications.
    • To block notifications from a site: Next to "Block," click Add. Enter the site then click Add.
    • To allow a site to send notifications: Next to "Allow," click Add. Enter the site then click Add.
    • To allow quieter notification prompts: Allow sites to ask to send notifications then click Use quieter messaging. Notification prompts won’t interrupt you.

Get your info across all your devices

Important: To turn on sync, you need a Google Account.
  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click Profile Profile.
  3. Sign in to your Google Account.
    • If you want to sync your info across all your devices: Click Turn on sync and then Turn on.
    • If you want to sync more than one account or you share your computer with others: Learn how to add a profile in Chrome.

Browse as a guest

In Guest mode, you won't find or change any other Chrome profile's info. When you exit Guest mode, your browsing activity is deleted from the computer.
  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top right, click Profile Profile.
  3. Click Guest.
Tip: If there's a supervised user on your computer and all non-supervised profiles are locked, Guest mode isn't available.

Delete your browsing history

If you don’t want a record of pages you visited, you can delete all or some of your browsing history. If you delete your browsing history, it gets deleted from devices where you're signed in to Chrome and syncing your history.

Separately, you can also delete your account’s Google search history.

Fix connection errors

If you try to visit a site and it doesn’t open:
  1. Check the web address for typos.
  2. Make sure your internet connection is working normally. If your internet connection is unstable, learn how to fix internet stability issues.
  3. Contact the website’s owner.

Fix file download errors

If you try to download a file and it doesn’t work:
  1. Make sure your internet connection is working normally. If your internet connection is unstable, learn how to fix internet stability issues.
  2. To resume the download:
    • Click More Down arrow and then Resume.
    • Wait for the download to resume automatically.
  3. Try again later.
  4. Contact the website’s owner.

Check if the site's connection is secure

To find out if a website is safe to visit, check the site’s security info. If you can’t visit the site safely or privately, Chrome will alert you.
  1. In Chrome, open a page.
  2. To check a site's security, to the left of the web address, note the security status:
    • Lock Secure
    • Not secure Info or Not secure
    • Not secure Not secure or Dangerous
  3. To get Chrome’s summary of the site's details and permissions, select the icon. 

Fix "Aw, Snap" errors

If you get the "Aw, Snap" error or another error code instead of a webpage, Chrome can’t properly load the page. The page might load slowly or not open at all.
