Dell SupportAssist

Applies to Dell Latitude 5300 2-in-1, 5400, 7410, and 7410 2-in-1 Chromebook Enterprise devices.

Dell SupportAssist is a program that sends hardware telemetry information to Dell in order to assist with supporting hardware issues. For information on Dell SupportAssist, go to Dell support.

By default, Dell SupportAssist is disabled and you will need to enable it in the Admin Console.

Enable Dell SupportAssist

There is a Chrome app that can be installed by administrators to unlock additional functions (e.g., initiate diagnostics, view scan results). To do this:

Force install the Dell SupportAssist app

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

    Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. In the Admin console, go to Menu and then Devicesand thenChromeand thenSettingsand thenDevice settings.
  3. To apply the setting to all devices, leave the top organizational unit selected. Otherwise, select a child organizational unit.
  4. Scroll to Dell SupportAssist.

  5. Select Enable Dell SupportAssist.

  6. Click OK to accept Dell SupportAssist terms and conditions.

  7. Select Force-install the Dell SupportAssist app for managed users signing into Dell devices in this organizational uni
  8. Click Save.

Manually add the Chrome app or extension by ID

  1. Sign in to your Google Admin console.

    Sign in using your administrator account (does not end in @gmail.com).

  2. In the Admin console, go to Menu and then Devicesand thenChromeand thenApps & extensionsand thenUsers & browsers.

    If you signed up for Chrome Browser Cloud Management, go to Menu and then Chrome browserand thenApps & extensionsand thenUsers & browsers.

  3. To apply the setting to all devices, leave the top organizational unit selected. Otherwise, select a child organizational unit.

  4. In the lower-right corner, point to Add Add question.

  5. Select Add Chrome app or extension by ID.

  6. Enter extension ID: emelalhagcpibaiiiijjlkmhhbekaidg.

  7. In the drop down menu, select From a custom URL.

  8. Enter URL: https://satd-proxy.dell.com/remote-config/saChromeUIAppUpdates.

  9. Click Save.

Once you have enabled the Dell SupportAssist app, it will be installed onto your device and you can grant access to all Chrome app permissions.

Note: Administrators who are using Chrome Active Directory to manage Chromebooks and want to install the Dell SupportAssist app, can do so by setting the appropriate GPO policy.
