Manage Chrome browser with Microsoft’s Intune Import Administrative templates

As a Chrome Enterprise administrator, you can manage Chrome browser on Microsoft Windows computers using Microsoft Intune Import Administrative templates. 

Microsoft Endpoint Manager Settings Catalog only offers a basic set of configurations from Chrome browser. If you need to configure other settings not available in the Settings Catalog, you can use the Imported Administrative templates policy available in Microsoft Endpoint Manager.

Before you begin

Step 1: Import the ADMX file

  1. Sign into the Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin center.
  2. Click Devicesand thenConfiguration profilesand thenImport ADMX.
    1. You can find the official Google’s ADMX templates and Google’s Updater ADM template here
    2. Unzip the files to upload them in Microsoft Endpoint Manager.
  3. To import the google.admx and google.adml files:
    1. Click Import.
    2. Import the files.
    3. Click Next.
    4. Click Create.
  4. To import the GoogleUpdate.admx and GoogleUpdate.adml files:
    1. Click Import.
    2. Import the files.
    3. Click Next.
    4. Click Create.
  5. To import the chrome.admx and chrome.adml files:
    1. Click Import.
    2. Import the files.
    3. Click Next.
    4. Click Create.

Note: You must upload the google.admx and google.adml files first. If not, the error message "ADMX file referenced not found NamespaceMissing:Google.Policies. Please upload it first." is displayed.

Step 2: Configure your policy

  1. Still in the Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin center, click Devicesand thenWindowsand thenConfiguration profiles.
  2. Click Create Profile.
  3. In Platforms, select Windows 10 and later.
  4. In Profile type, select Templates
  5. Click Imported Administrative templates (Preview).
  6. Click Create.
  7. Enter a configuration name, for example Imported Admin Templates - Google Chrome.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Configure the browser based on your organization’s requirements.
  10. Select any applicable Scope Tags.
  11. Click Next.
  12. Select any applicable Included groups and Excluded groups, and respective Filters.
  13. Click Next.
  14. Click Create.
