Join a space in Google Chat

When you’re invited to join a space, you can preview the space and view its message history.

Join a space from Gmail

Important: "Browse spaces" will not display discoverable spaces.

  1. Open your Gmail account. You might need to sign in.
  2. On the left, click the Spaces tab.
    • To find a space, you can:
      • Enter a space name in the search bar and click on the Spaces filter chip that matches the space you want.
      • Click Browse spaces. 
    • To make a new space, click Create space.
  3. To join the space, in the preview, click Add "" or Join.
  4. To open the space, click Open.

Join a space from Google Chat 

  1. Open Google Chat.
  2. At the top left, click Start a chat "".
  3. Click Browse spaces. The spaces that you're directly invited to appear at the top of the list. To find a space, enter its name.
    • To preview a space, point to the space name and click Preview. When you preview a space, you can read messages, but you can't participate in the conversation or get notifications.
  4. To join the space, in the preview, click Add "" or Join.
  5. To open the space, click Open.
