Manage a customer's free trial

When you add a new subscription for a paid service such as Google Workspace, you can offer a 30-day free trial:

  • One trial period is offered per customer.
  • If the customer doesn't qualify, the trial option isn't available in the console.

Qualifications for a free trial

Qualified accounts

  • New customers
  • Customers currently in a free trial when they transferred to your reseller account.

Accounts that don’t qualify

  • Current customers who canceled a free trial (with either a reseller or Google direct sales)
  • Customers who contractually use offline order placement

Change the payment plan during a trial

During the free trial period, you can switch the payment plan before the paid subscription starts.

  1. Sign in to the Partner Sales Console.
  2. On the Customers page, click the customer name.
  3. Select the customer's subscription.
  4. Next to Payment, click the payment plan.

    You only have to select the billing account if you have multiple billing accounts set up in your Partner Sales Console. Otherwise, go to the next step.

    • All orders for a customer must use the same currency, but you can use different billing accounts with the same currency.
    • All Google Workspace subscriptions need to use the same billing account.
  2. For the payment plan you want, click Select plan.
  3. Enter the number of licenses neededand thenclick Save.
  4. Enter the P.O. number (optional)and thenclick Confirm orderand thenClose.

Convert a trial to a paid subscription

During the free trial period, you can switch to a paid subscription. If you don’t set up billing and a payment plan within 30 days, the trial account is suspended until you set up billing.

  1. Sign in to the Partner Sales Console.
  2. On the Customers page, click the customer name.
  3. Select the customer's subscription.
  4. Choose one of the following options:
    • Next to Payment, click Trial plan.
    • Click Set up billing.

  1. Select the billing account.

    You only have to select the billing account if you have multiple billing accounts set up in your Partner Sales Console. Otherwise, go to the next step.

  2. For the payment plan you want, click Select plan.

Transfer a trial customer to Google

If your customer doesn’t want to convert to a paid account, you can transfer their account to Google and the customer can start a new 30-day trial period.
