Dynamic targeting keys

Dynamic targeting keys are unique, friendly labels that can be assigned to ads, creatives and placements and used for targeting with Studio dynamic creatives. Use these labels to save time and avoid the errors that may arise when you use numeric Campaign Manager 360 IDs (such as placement IDs) in your dynamic feeds.

Create dynamic targeting keys at the advertiser level, then assign them in Trafficking.

Create keys

You can create targeting keys in several places in Campaign Manager 360:

  • At the advertiser level, on the Properties tab
  • In your ad, creative, or placement (Dynamic targeting keys)

To create a key at the advertiser level:

  1. Click All Advertisers in the left navigation bar and select an advertiser to edit.
  2. Click the Properties tab, then Dynamic targeting keys.
  3. Click New targeting key.
  4. Enter a valid name, see limits below.
  5. Click OK after you enter each key name, then Save when you're done.

To create a key in your ad, creative, or placement properties:

  1. Go to the Dynamic targeting keys section of your ad, creative, or placement's properties.
  2. Click Assign targeting key.
  3. Enter a new key in the search field.
  4. Click (create new) to create a new key for the current advertiser. The new key will automatically be assigned after it's created.
  5. Click Save.

Quantity, size, and character limits

  • All characters are converted to lowercase
  • Each key must be less than 256 characters
  • No commas (all other characters are accepted)
  • Maximum of 1000 keys per advertiser
  • Maximum of 20 keys assigned per ad, placement, or creative

Assign keys

Keys are assigned in Trafficking in the properties of the ad, creative, or placement.

  1. Go to the Dynamic targeting keys section of your ad, creative, or placement's properties.
  2. Click Assign targeting key.
  3. Select a key or enter a new key in the search field.
  4. If you enter a new key, click (create new) to create a new key for the current advertiser. The new key will automatically be assigned after it's created.
  5. Click Save.
If you copy these creatives to other advertisers in Campaign Manager 360, make sure the other advertisers have the same dynamic targeting keys. If the keys don't exist in those advertisers, default ads will be served.
