Campaign Manager sites

Sites in Campaign Manager 360 represent real websites, mobile apps, or networks where advertisers purchase ad space and serve ads. They are always called "sites," even if they represent an app or network instead of a website. In a Campaign Manager 360 campaign, you create placements and choose sites for them. The ads you assign to your placements will appear on these sites. Use this guide to add or update sites in Campaign Manager 360.

Add sites to your Campaign Manager 360 account

Use these steps to add sites from the Site Directory to your Campaign Manager 360 account. Only add the sites you need for your placements. This will make it easier for you to find them when you pick sites for your placements in Campaign Manager 360.

If you can't find the site you need in the Site Directory, use the steps below to add sites to the Site Directory from Campaign Manager 360.

Steps to add sites
  1. At the account level in Campaign Manager 360, click Admin > Sites. Then click the New button.

  2. Campaign Manager 360 now shows you a list of sites in the Site Directory. Search for the site you want to add to your account.

Try entering the full URL into the search bar if you need to narrow down your list of results.

  3. Click Add site.

  4. Campaign Manager 360 will open your site so you can check the site properties. See below in this article for more information about site properties.

Create a site using a publisher's specifications

Use the specification library to set which video transcodes are enabled by default on new placements or check whether an existing creative meets a particular publisher’s specifications. Ensure you are using a user profile that has permission to manage your account’s sites.

In Campaign Manager 360:

  1. Click Admin > Sites.
  2. Click New
  3. Click the Search items… box > Publisher specification and choose a publisher.
  4. Choose a site from the directory that best fits your use case.
  5. Click Add Site. Make a note of the Site ID.
  6. Change the name of the site if needed, then click Save.
  7. Link your new site to your DV360 advertiser
    1. In Display & Video 360 navigate to the advertiser where you intend to run your campaign.
    2. Click Advertiser Settings > Basic Details.
    3. Click the pencil icon to edit Ad server and attribution.
    4. Add the Site ID your site is listed in the Campaign Manager 360 site(s) box. Click Apply.

Once your site is set up, create your placements under that site to ensure that the correct video transcodes are selected by default.

Campaign Manager 360 says my account already has the site I need.

If your account already has this site, Campaign Manager 360 will alert you above your site list.

  • If you're adding a site to a subaccount: Select your subaccount on the upper left, above your site list. You need to add the site again for each additional subaccount.

  • If you're adding a site to your account: Click Go to my sites above your site list to check the list of sites in your account. You probably already have the site you need.

It's good to avoid adding a site multiple times to the same account. This keeps your account-specific site settings in one place. Otherwise, you might end up with different settings across multiple versions of the same site.

If you're certain you need to add a new version of your site top your account, click Add it again above your site list.

I can't find my site in the Site Directory.

If you've searched for your site and can't find it, click the following link below your site list: Click here to add it to the Site Directory.

  1. Enter a name and URL for your site.

  2. Click Add site.

  3. Use the rest of this guide to complete the site properties and save your site.

I want to add the site to a specific subaccount.

Select the subaccount from the "Add to a subaccount" menu above your list of sites. Keep in mind that the selection you make here can't be changed later.

Site properties: Identification

Identification

Site ID: A unique identifier for the site, used in reporting. You can find this ID at the top of your page, above the tabs. It cannot be edited.

Site name: By default, the name of the directory site is used. If you've already mapped a site to the same directory site, Campaign Manager 360 will add the number 1 to the end of the name. If you map a third site, the number 2 will be appended to the name of the previously mapped site. For example, if you map four sites to the directory site Web Wonderful, you'll get sites called Web Wonderful, Web Wonderful 1, Web Wonderful 1 2, and Web Wonderful 1 2 3.

Subaccount: This field is displayed if the site belongs to a subaccount. Sites can be added to subaccounts in two ways.

  • When you add a site from the Sites page, you can choose a subaccount from the drop-down list.

  • If the site was added automatically when you create a placement, and the placement belongs to an advertiser in a subaccount, the site is added to the same subaccount.

Keyname: A unique identifier that is included in the Campaign Manager 360 placement tags of placements associated with this site.

Status: Shows whether the site is approved or not. Ads can only be delivered to approved sites. All sites are approved by default when they're added. When you unapprove a site, Campaign Manager 360 stops delivery of ads to all placements on the site.

Check if an existing site meets a publisher's specifications

To ensure that new placements have the right video transcodes enabled to meet the publisher’s requirements, confirm you have a site set up that uses the publisher’s specification.

In Campaign Manager 360:

  1. Click Admin > Sites.
  2. Click the site you’d like to review. Make a note of the site ID.
  3. Expand Directory site properties and confirm that Publisher specification is set to the publisher.
  4. Verify that your site is linked to your Display & Video 360 advertiser
    1. In Display & Video 360 navigate to the advertiser where you intend to run your campaign.
    2. Click Advertiser Settings > Basic Details.
    3. Click the pencil icon to edit Ad server and attribution.
    4. Confirm your site is listed in the Campaign Manager 360 site(s) box and includes the ID for your site. If it does not, add it and click Apply.

You are ready to create placements with default video transcodes that meet the publisher’s specifications.

Site properties: Settings

Cookies

The fields in this section determine how Campaign Manager 360 handles cookies for users who view ads on this site. In general, whenever an ad is requested, Campaign Manager 360 checks to see whether the user has a DoubleClick cookie. If not, the Campaign Manager 360 ad server sets a new cookie. However, using the fields in this section, you can override these processes.

Keep in mind that Campaign Manager 360 uses cookies for certain types of targeting, as well as for Floodlight data.

Do not set new cookies: If you select this option, no new DoubleClick cookies will be set for users viewing ads on this site.

This field only affects DoubleClick cookies. The site can still set and access its own cookies regardless of your settings here.
Active View and Verification for video ads

This drop-down sets the default for new placements using this site for Active View and Verification data for in-stream video ads. "Let Campaign Manager 360 decide" is selected by default for every site.

Updating this drop-down will not change the setting for existing placements using this site.

Enabling Active View and Verification will not cause in-stream video ads to be billed as VPAID ads.

Conversion windows

In most cases, you don't need to set conversion windows for sites.

Conversion windows are used with Floodlight, which only records conversions for users who have previously seen or clicked on a Campaign Manager 360 ad within a period of time that you specify. The values you set here are sometimes used in new placements, if no conversion windows have been set for the campaign. Learn more about conversion windows

For clicks, impressions, and Studio events, you can specify the conversion window, in days, from the last time a given user clicked, viewed one of your ads, or interacted with a Rich Media ad. A value of 0 is interpreted to mean that clicks, impressions, or Rich Media events shouldn't be counted as triggering events for conversion tracking. If you leave a conversion window blank, the default value for the advertiser will be used as the basis for all new placements.

Site tag options

The fields in this section affect how the Campaign Manager 360 placement tags are formatted for placements on the site. Keep in mind that all of these settings can be overridden for individual placements.

Click-tracking: If you enable the Insert click-tracking string in tags checkbox, the click= parameter is included in iframe and JavaScript Campaign Manager 360 placement tags for placements on this site. This parameter is used to redirect clicks to a third-party site, typically so that the site publisher can perform its own click counting. Keep in mind that Campaign Manager 360 uses a variety of methodologies to ensure accurate counting of clicks, so there may be discrepancies between our count and that of a third party.

To use the click= parameter, the publisher needs to insert a URL as the value of the parameter, followed by %u. When a user clicks on an ad, the browser will first direct the browser to the URL specified in as the value of click=, allowing for external counting. The %u tells the Campaign Manager 360 ad server to send the user to the landing page specified in Campaign Manager 360.

If the click= parameter is used, the publisher should make sure that it's used in both the iframe and the JavaScript tags. The publisher also needs to redirect standard tags to the third-party site; what methodology is used is up to the publisher.

This value can be overridden in individual placements.

Keyword handling: Ads can be targeted to keywords. The Keyword handling settings affect how these keywords are embedded in the Campaign Manager 360 placement tags.

  • Placeholder with list of keywords: Each set of tags includes a kw=[keyword] placeholder. The set of tags also includes a list of keywords targeted by all ads that target the placement for which the tags are generated.

This option is most commonly used for sites that dynamically insert keywords into the Campaign Manager 360 placement tags. For example, a search site might dynamically insert users' search queries into the Campaign Manager 360 placement tags, enabling the Campaign Manager 360 ad server to deliver an ad targeted to users' search terms.

  • Ignore: Keywords are not included in the tags.

  • Generate separate tag for each keyword: For each type of tag, a separate set of tags is generated for each keyword targeted by any ad that targets the placement for which the tags are generated.

Additional key-values: Site publishers use key-values for a variety of purposes. If the site's publisher requests that specific key-values be added to all Campaign Manager 360 placement tags, enter those key-values here.

  • How it works: The key-values entered in the Additional key-values text box are appended to all Campaign Manager 360 placement tags, regardless of the option you select in the Keyword handling section. When you create a new placement, Campaign Manager 360 adds any key-values that are in the Additional key-values text box. It adds these key-values regardless of your settings in the Keyword handling section.

  • How it affects placements: Note that adding new key-values only affects new placements. It won't change existing placements. If you copy an old placement, it won't include the new key-values either

  • Guidelines: Enter key-value pairs, in key=value format. Separate key-value pairs with a semicolon. Do not use commas. Note that key-value pairs inserted by Campaign Manager 360 will override any that you enter here (if you use the same keys). There's no need to add the same key-value pair twice, especially if your value conflicts with the accurate one added by Campaign Manager 360. For example, Campaign Manager 360 already adds the sz= key-value pair to your tags. If you enter your own sz= key-value pair (e.g., sz=300x250), Campaign Manager 360 will ignore it.

Please take care when using key-values. The terms of your Google Marketing Platform contract prohibit passing any information to us that we could use or recognize as personally identifiable information (PII). If you enter certain key-values into a field in a Google Marketing Platform product, you may see a warning that reminds you that you must not use key-values to pass data that we would recognize as PII. Key-values that trigger this warning include, for example, email and username. Note that it is okay to use these key-values if your purpose is not to collect information that Google Marketing Platform could use or recognize as PII. (For example, email=weekly is fine, but passing a user’s email address is not.) If you do choose one of these key-values, Google Marketing Platform may contact you in the future to confirm that you are not using them in a way that is prohibited.

Site properties: Verification settings

Use the checkbox here to turn ad blocking settings on or off for this site.

Ad blocking prevents your ads from serving to inventory where you do not want them to appear. This way you can make sure your advertiser's brand does not appear in the wrong context. If you enable ad blocking, Campaign Manager 360 will send either transparent pixels or your own unbranded creatives to inventory that matches your ad blocking criteria.

Your overall ad blocking criteria is managed in Verification. In Trafficking, you enable ad blocking for specific campaigns, sites, or placements.

Site properties: In-stream video settings

To save time, you can set default video settings for new in-stream video placements. Each time you create a new placement, the placement will start with the default settings you select here. Use these settings to control the orientation of the video, companion creatives, skip buttons, and transcodes for new placements.

Orientation
This option determines what creative orientations will be included in the pre-fetch tag for a placement. It is set to “Any” by default, so creatives of any orientation are included in new placement tags. You can also select either portrait or landscape.
Companion creatives

This option determines whether or not companion creatives will be included in the pre-fetch tag for a placement. It is set to ON by default, so companion creatives of any size and any type are included in the placement tag.

You can refine what companions are included by selecting specific sizes and asset types. For example, if you know a publisher only accepts 300x250 companions for ad slots, set that as the included companion size. For any in-stream video creative assigned to a placement, only the 300x250 companion will be included in tags.

If you do not want to include companion creatives in placements by default, turn off Include companions.

Skip button

This option determines whether to control the skip button from the placement or from each creative assigned to the placement. It is set to OFF by default.

  • If you turn it on, the skip button settings in new placements will override the settings from assigned creatives. Select whether or not to include the skip button in the placement tag. If you include the button, set a skip offset and progress offset.
  • If you turn it off, the skip button settings from assigned creatives will be used.
OBA icon

This option determines whether to control the OBA (Online Behavioral Advertising) icon from the placement or from each creative assigned to the placement. It is set to OFF by default.

  • If you turn it on, the OBA settings in new placements will override the settings from assigned creatives. Select whether or not to include an OBA icon in the VAST pre-fetch placement tag.
  • If you turn it to off, the OBA settings from assigned creatives will be used.

Please note that whether or not the OBA icon serves is dependent on the publisher's video player.

Transcodes

This option determines whether to control transcodes from the placement or from each creative assigned to the placement. It is set to OFF by default.

  • If you turn it on, the transcodes selected here will override the transcode settings from assigned creatives. Select whether or not to include each transcode as serving files in the placement tag.
  • If you turn it off, the transcode settings from assigned creatives will be used.

If you are using placement-level transcode settings but Campaign Manager 360 is unable to generate a specific transcode for an assigned creative, we will include only whatever transcodes were generated.

Adjust placements to meet a publisher's specifications

To adjust an existing placement to meet a publisher’s specifications (even if it is not trafficked under an publisher-specific site):

  1. Open the placement settings.
  2. Expand Video Transcode Settings.
  3. Turn on Control transcodes from the placement.
  4. Select the publisher from the dropdown.
  5. Click Save.

Site properties: Directory site properties

This section shows information about the directory site to which the site is mapped. These fields include the name and URL of the directory site, as well as a list of which ad, creative, and tag types the directory site accepts, and whether the site is enabled for publisher-paid ad serving.

In most cases, Campaign Manager 360 allows you to choose a site for your placement even if the site information indicates the site does not accept that placement type. However, if the site directory information indicates a site doesn't accept interstitial tags, Campaign Manager 360 will prevent you from adding display interstitial placements.

All of the other fields in this section are informational only. They are intended to let you know the website's policies. They do not restrict your ability to traffic these types of tags and creatives.

If the site you're working in hasn't been mapped to a directory site, this section will contain a link enabling you to do so.

Site properties: Site contacts

Here you can find names, email addresses, phone number, and other info for contacts for the site and site directory. When you send placement tags to sites, this info auto-populates.

  • To add a contact, click New contact. Then add the name, phone number, job title, and address for the contact.

  • To edit a contact, click into the fields and make changes.

  • To delete a contact, select its checkbox and click Delete.

Remember to save your new or edited contacts. Otherwise, you will lose all your changes.
