Changes to Google My Business messaging
Google My Business messaging via SMS will no longer be available after November 15, 2019. To continue using messaging with Google My Business, download our mobile app.
Google My Business messaging is moving from SMS to the Google My Business app starting on November 15. If you're currently using Google My Business messaging via SMS, you'll need to download the latest version of the Google My Business app. Once you've installed the app, you can turn on messaging. You’ll then receive and respond to messages in the app only—not via SMS.
Use messaging in the Google My Business app
Messaging in the Google My Business app lets you receive and reply to messages free of charge. You can keep a record of your conversations and easily access reviews, bookings, insights, and other Google My Business app features.
To use messaging in the Google My Business app:
- On your mobile device, open the Google My Business app . If you don’t have the app, download it.
- If you have multiple locations, open the location you'd like to manage.
- Tap Customers Messages Turn on.
Your new messages will appear in the app (rather than SMS). You’ll receive notifications for incoming messages.
Note: The following features are currently not available in the Google My Business app:
- Using a third-party system, like custom SMS routing, to manage your messages. If you're interested in the messaging API (currently in closed beta), you can join the waitlist.
