Edit Tool on Blog

The edit tool at the bottom right hand corner of each post is missing. This is particularly important if an edit is needed on an old post which would take a long time to find through the interface.

Excuse me, Jeffrey. This seems to be a system-wide change as of today, others are reporting it.

I'll let you know if i can learn more about it.

Hi Jeffrey,

I am also a critic. As for the quick-edit tools, I view this as the most significant loss of functionality of the new order.

Earlier today I published a slightly different version of Gus O's workaround. It is entitled "Blogger Gets Harder to Use."

So please do not imagine that I think anyone should be satisfied with it. But all i can do here is to suggest coping strategies.

Another blogger on another thread made a similar suggestion to Gus's. i just wanted to acknowledge everyone's work.

I am testing another solution that might be better but is still not a patch on it just working the way it used to.

Hi everyone,

Since we have another roll-up thread, but people are still posting to this one, I am going to lock this one. So if you have come here and want to share information, please post in the roll-up.

If you post there you can subscribe to the thread.

Since some people seem to have missed it, there is a workaround that seems to work for many. Here is a summary to date:
  • For the quick-edit tools, we don't know exactly what is going on. Maybe related to another big change at Google, this time about 3rd-party cookies.
  • Probably the best workaround so far
  • Some background and another workaround
  • Here is the roll-up thread (post there, not here)
Finally, I am going to do a gauche thing and mark my own post as a recommended answer. That is so that people coming to this thread for the first time will be more likely to see it.

Is anyone familiar with a method to determine, in the HTML code, whether a blog viewer has admin privileges?

The disappearance of the quick edit tool is maddening. Also...

On the old version of blogger it was easy to embed Google Books pages, tweets, etc. Now, it just displays code. Does anyone know a new procedure for these embeds?

What I ended up doing was setting the edit tool link css style to "display:block;opacity:0" so the edit link is forced on for everyone but invisible. It's still clickable for everyone but readers won't be able to see it. Readers can still click it by accident but that was just the easiest workaround for me. I really hope they fix this soon and I swear to god it better not be another feature they just decided to "remove" from blogger.
@Riley, I think that is really quite clever.

@Robert, I suspect you are on the right track with your question. The problem seems to be that one can't do that with HTML.

To me, that suggests a systemic change someplace rather than a deliberate decision to deep-six this functionality.
