November 2 Page visibility signal, sensitive U.S. Presidential election updates

Real-time bidding

New signals for visibility state of the webpage

We added page_visibility to our Google protocol and Google OpenRTB extensions, which indicates the visibility state of the webpage containing the ad slot. Learn more about page visibility from the W3C.

Policy

Updates to sensitive events for the U.S. Presidential election

We will be implementing a sensitive event policy for political ads after polls close in the United States on November 3rd due to the number of votes that will be counted after election day this year. While this policy is in place, advertisers will not be able to run ads referencing the U.S. Presidential election, the candidates, or its outcome.

This sensitive event policy applies to all in-scope ads running through Google Ads, DV360, YouTube, or Authorized Buyers. It doesn’t impact publisher monetization, Open Bidding, or Deals (including non-DV360 PG, Auction Packages).

October 19 Updates to publisher approval, "no bid reasons" bid response

User interface

Updates to the publisher approval process

We have made changes to the approval process for publishers with Open Bidding inventory. For buyers who do not automatically accept bid requests from new publishers:

  • Current publishers will be listed as “Active” or “Inactive”
  • New publishers will be “Pending”, which you must update within 2 business days to “Approved” or “Rejected”. This helps publishers understand that you’ve considered their inventory and have decided whether or not to work with them.
  • You can change the status from “Approved” or “Rejected” at any time, however, you cannot return to “Pending”.

You can choose to automatically accept bid requests from new publishers. This only affects future requests, and existing publishers will remain in their assigned state.

Updates to the OpenRTB and Google RTB protocol

We now pass omidpn (OMID partner name) and omidpv (OMID partner version) fields in OpenRTB and in Google RTB protocols. These fields help bidders and ad creatives leverage the IAB’s Open Measurement SDK.

“No bid reasons” bid response now supported

We now support an optional “no bid reasons” response for bidders. This is equivalent to BidResponse.nbr in the OpenRTB protocol and uses the same namespace of no-bid reason codes.
