Google Home & phone respond to "Ok Google"

If you’re near your Google Home device and phone, only Google Home should respond to "Ok Google." If your phone also responds, here’s how you can try fixing the issue.  

Step 1: Update your Google app version

  1. On your phone, open the Google app Google .
  2. At the top left of the Home screen, tap your profile image. 
  3. Scroll down, then tap About.
  4. At the bottom of your screen, you’ll see the app version number.
  5. If your version is below 20.3, go to the Google app page in the App Store, then tap Update.

Step 2: Add the same account to both devices

If you have multiple Google Accounts, add the account you used to set up Google Home to your phone.

Step 2: Add the account to your phone
  1. On your phone, open the Google app Google .
  2. At the top left of the Home screen, tap your profile image.
  3. Tap your profile image again and thenAdd account.
  4. Follow the steps to add your account. After you add the account, you don’t need to stay signed in.

  • Say "Ok Google." (Your phone shouldn’t respond.)

Talk to your phone

  • When you’re at home:
    1. Open the Google app Google .
    2. In the search bar, tap Speak Microphone.
    3. Say a command or ask a question.
  • When you're not at home, say "Ok Google."
