My watch won't stay connected

If your watch is having trouble staying connected to your phone, try the tips below.

Note: If you’re having trouble connecting your watch for the first time, try these steps to connect to your watch.

1 Check your Bluetooth connection

To make sure your phone's Bluetooth is turned on:

  1. Open your device's Settings menu Settings
  2. Under "Wireless & networks," tap Bluetooth.
  3. Make sure the switch is set to On

To make sure your watch is not in Airplane mode:

  1. If your screen is dim, tap the screen to wake up the watch.
  2. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
  3.  Tap Settings Settings.
    • If you don't see it right away, swipe left and then tap Settings Settings.
  4. Scroll until you see Airplane mode and make sure it says Off.
2 Check your phone’s Internet connection

Your phone needs an mobile data connection or a Wi-Fi connection to complete setup.

To make sure you’re connected, try going to a website like news.google.com.

3 Restart your watch and phone
  1. If your screen is dim, tap the screen to wake up the watch.
  2. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
  3. Tap Settings Settings.
    • If you don't it right away, swipe left and then tap Settings Settings.
  4. Tap System.
  5. Scroll down and tap Restart .
  6. Restart your phone by pressing and holding the power button.
4 If nothing else works

1 Unpair your watch from your phone

  1. Open your device's Settings menu Settings.
  2. Under "Wireless & networks," tap Bluetooth.
  3. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
  4. Next to name of your Android Wear watch, tap Settings Settings. On the screen that opens, tap Forget. 

2 Reset your watch to factory settings 

Note: When you reset your watch to factory settings, apps, settings, and data on your watch will all be erased.

  1. If your screen is dim, tap the screen to wake up the watch.
  2. Swipe down from the top of the screen.
  3. Tap Settings Settingsand then System.
    • If you don't see it right away, swipe left until you see Settings Settings.
  4. Scroll down and tap Disconnect and reset .
    • If you don't see Disconnect and reset, tap Unpair with phone .
  5. Confirm you’d like to unpair and factory reset your watch by tapping Done Done.

If you’re still having trouble, you may need to uninstall the Android Wear app and reinstall it before trying again.

3 Pair your watch and phone again

  1. On your phone, open the Android Wear app Android Wear.
  2. At the top of the screen, tap the down arrow Down Arrow.
  3. Select Pair with new wearable.
  4. To finish reconnecting your watch, follow the instructions on your phone or tablet.
