Fix issues with setting up your watch

If you’ve synced your watch and phone before, you might need to complete extra steps to set them up again.

First, make sure your phone and watch are:

  • Powered on

  • Close together

  • Not in Airplane mode

It takes too long to set up my watch

You might need to wait several minutes for your watch and phone to share info.

If you still find “Getting watch details” or “Finishing…” on your phone after 20 minutes, try the steps below.

Important: The steps below are for Wear OS and may vary based on your manufacturer, device, and software version.

Check that your watch works with your iPhone

Find out if your iPhone works with Wear OS.

Make sure your phone and app are up-to-date

Check for iPhone updates

  1. On your iPhone, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap General and then Software Update.
  3. If there is an update available, tap to install. 

Check for Wear OS app updates

  1. On your iPhone, open the App Store app.
  2. At the bottom right, tap Updates.
  3. If you find the Wear OS app listed under “Pending Updates," tap Update.

Set up your watch and phone again

After you update your phone or app, try to set up your devices again.

  1. On your phone, open the Wear OS app Wear OS by Google or the companion app for your device.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu and then Set up a new watch.
  3. To finish, follow the onscreen instructions.
Check your phone's Bluetooth connection
  1. On your iPhone, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Bluetooth.
  3. Check that Bluetooth is turned on.

Remove the watch from Bluetooth memory

  1. On your iPhone, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Bluetooth.
  3. Next to the device you want to remove, tap Information Information and then Forget this device and then Forget device.

Set up your watch and phone again

After you update your phone or app, try to set up your devices again.

  1. On your phone, open the Wear OS app Wear OS by Google or the companion app for your device.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu and then Set up a new watch.
  3. To finish, follow the onscreen instructions.
 
Restart your watch and phone

Turn your devices off and on again

  1. On your watch, press the Power button for 15 seconds or until the watch shuts down.

  2. Restart your iPhone.

  1. On your iPhone, open the Wear OS app Wear OS by Google or the companion app for your device.
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu and then Set up a new watch.
  3. To finish, follow the onscreen instructions.
Reset your watch to factory settings

If you tried all of the solutions above and still have issues, disconnect your watch and reset it to factory settings. Then you can set up your watch from the beginning.

Important: When you reset your watch to factory settings, all apps, settings, and data on your watch are erased.

Reset your watch

  1. On your watch, press and hold the Power button to open the Settings panel.
  2. Scroll down and select Disconnect and reset Disconnect and reset and then Done Done.

Remove the watch from Bluetooth memory

  1. On your iPhone, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Bluetooth.
  3. Next to the device you want to remove, tap Information Information and then Forget this device and then Forget device.

Set up your watch and phone again

  1. On your iPhone, open the Wear OS app Wear OS by Google or the companion app for your device.
  2. At the top, tap the name of your watch and then Set up a new watch.
  3. To finish, follow the onscreen instructions.
