I went to the Pixel 7's Settings > Connected devices > Connection preferences > Android Auto
From there you can + Connect a car
Hope this helps.

- Error message: No message on car or phone
- Were you able to connect to Android Auto prior to the issue? Yes a Pixel 5 connected to the same car with the same cable
- Car / head unit make & model: 2018 Mercedes E- Class
- Phone make & model: Pixel 7
- Android OS version: 13
- Android Auto app version: 9.0.630834-release
- Google Play services version: 23.10.15 (190400-51766699)
I am so so disappointed with this...
Connect using known good USB C to A cable (same cable used successfully with previous Pixel 5).
AA does not load on the car display. The car recognises a USB device is connected, but AA does not load up.
PLEASE GET THIS FIXED THANK YOU!

Also the Sony Xperia 5III wont't connect with my car. Even I change the cables.
Nothing new. The phone and the car recognize each other but don't connect.
-> My Xperia show the error: change the cable
->
My Car shows, what do you connect. Mirrowlink, Apple etc.

I love Pixel 7 but it makes me uncomfortable in the car.
Is there any workaround solution?

I FOUND A SOLUTION - hopefully it helps someone else who's given up on connecting a Pixel 7 Pro to Android Auto.
Spent several hours this morning doings lots of uninstalls, resetting network connections and other things, updates, and many different cables trying to get Android Auto to connect. Nothing worked. My phone would say it was connected, but the car system didn't recognize anything was connected, or only for a second, then would prompt me to follow the prompts on my phone screen. No prompts because it thought it was already connected. Was completely frustrated and considering returning my new phone and living with the old one till this is resolved.
But.... somewhere I saw someone post that they got an Motorola M1 adapter that allowed them to it over Bluetooth and the adapter connects through the port to the Android Auto. Within about 2 minutes, tops, I was fully connected again! I resent having to pay for the adapter when it should've never been an issue with a system that was already working fine with an older phone, but at least it's working. Ran seamlessly for hours today so, *knock on wood* I think it's good to go.
