I've tried a number of cables. It seems that it's triggered when it's interrupted by a notification. So if I'm in my car and Android Auto is running but I get an email then it disconnects and is constantly trying to reread the USB until I unplug and reconnect.

Same issue with my Pixel 6 Pro.  No issues with my 18 Sonata and my S9+. But all day today AA randomly disconnects from the car. I thought it might be notifications but it does it when trying to load Waze or Maps.

I also have the same issue with my Pixel 6 and a Kenwood unit. Yesterday I was driving for a while when all of a sudden it disconnected from USB and I lost AA.
In my case it goes in loop like trying to connect on/off continuously making the phone useless.

USB cables I own are good. They work with an old phone.

Ditto.  It'll spam connecting to unable to read USB until I disconnect the cable.  Tried several cables.  I'm hoping this is a software issue and not a hardware issue. But I'm within my return period so figures crossed.

This worked fine with my pixel 3aXL. Tried multiple cables my pixel 6 won't connect.

I drive VW Passat using the MIB II infotainment system

Same issue here. Connecting to AA on my ioniq. Constant disconnecting and reconnecting. Today was my first drive with Pixel 6 while connected with AA. Seems to be a common issue. Very disappointing and annoying.

Same issues here. Zero issues with my P4 and P2. New pixel 6 is flaky, even crashed my headunit (uconnect 4).

Same issue here with pixel 6 in a vw through usb. Pixel 5 and 4 are solid. 6 seems to disconnect with each notification that it doesn't know how to handle.

I followed Jimmy's suggestion as seems to have worked for me also. Steps to replicate on Pixel 6 (or any Android 12)

  • Open Settings
  • Search Settings - type "Android" and then select "Android Auto" from the search results.
  • Tap "Previously connected cars", then on the next screen, tap the three vertical dots in top right corner and "Forget all cars"
  • When you get back into your vehicle, connect as usual and re-pair your phone to the vehicle.

I did this yesterday whilst NOT connected to the vehicle and I've used it this morning for 30+ mins and at lunchtime for 10mins and had zero disconnections - normally I would've had multiple in that time.
I'm still dubious as to if it's properly fixed it, but fingers crossed and hope this works for everyone.
