Hi Justin,

Thanks for reaching out to us.

Connectivity issues can occur due to several factors (car, phone, USB cable, software, etc) that can affect the performance of Android Auto. We recommend trying the troubleshooting steps on this FAQ thread to help with your experience.

If the issue still persists, you can fill out this Contact us form for further assistance. Thanks!

I've been dealing with this issue with my Pixel 3. Worked perfectly until the past week or so. Now Android Auto is constantly restarting on my car display. The screen will go black in the middle of navigating with Google maps and then restart. Spotify will stop and I'll have to relaunch the app on my phone to get it to start again.

Having the same issue with pixel 6 and Acura RDX.  Worked perfectly on Samsung Note 9, so can't blame on the cables.  If many people experienced with similar issue, I think it is save to say it is not the cables.

Caveman workaround:
1 - Connect the phone to the car via bluetooth
2 - Play Bluetooth Audios from the car (so if you play musics / audio book / etc on the phone, it will output to the car audio system)
3 - Open the Map of your choice (Google / Waze / whatever you like), screen on the phone.
Worked "great", meaning there are no disconnection.  But hopefully this is just a temp work around.  I donated and gave away my cell phone mount for a reason; and I am not going to buy another one just for this TEMP WORKAROUND!

Oh, get this, the new Andriod Auto on the phone, it says it has to be output to the car screen.  Use Google Assistance Driving Mode instead.  Disabling a feature prematurely?

I have the same issue with my Pixel 6 Pro in my Kia Forte 2018. As many others have said it works for a while but all of a sudden will go in a loop of disconnecting and trying to reconnect USB until I unplug the cable. Seems I even have to restart my phone for it to reconnect properly.

Had no problem with my old Android phone and swapping cable had no difference.

I guess I'll have to stick with Bluetooth music until this is fixed... hopefully, a software patch.

Why is it every time I have an android auto issue I can always find super long threads, and a single generic response from a Google rep.
It's obvious our cables aren't the issue when the issue starts occurring randomly for many people.
My cable still works fine on my pixel 3xl with android 11. But multiple cables, including ones provided by Google DO NOT WORK.
I had to unplug and plug my phone back in 30 times trying to drive 8 miles in an unfamiliar area today and trying to use the map. And I'm pretty sure the reason why is because I kept getting messages from my job on Google chat and/or whatsapp.

Every time it disconnects my cars head unit says "no response from phone"

Good to know it's not only me lol 🤣 Pixel 6 Pro, Kenwood head unit, had a Pixel 5 prior to the 6 Pro, it worked beautifully, the 5 was even on the betas, and then the final build of android 12, no issues whatever, but on the Pixel 6 Pro, major issues, Spotify not working, Google maps is buggy, Jesus it's a 💩 show 😊

Not sure what build of the AA application everyone is running, but this may help, in the settings forget the connected devices, etc Kenwood,or whatever your said unit is, if you have the  developer options activated, Turn it off, now try to set up again to the same head unit, this has worked for me....so far...😉 I travelled from work to home, and  everything worked Spotify and maps at the same time. No bugginess. Hopefully this bug will be fixed with a update soon but hopefully this may help some other people and not just me, in the  in the meantime.

Thx Jimmy...that worked for me!👍
Used AA from work > home...about 120km without any issues.

Having the same issue with a P6 in a VW Golf. Worked fine for a short drive but then disconnected and will no longer reconnect. Tried different cables to no avail. Same cables work fine with my P4a 5g. Will try Jimmy's suggestion for my commute tomorrow

update - Jimmy's suggestion worked to help me get connected for a bit, then I get disconnected because the car's clock doesnt match EXACTLY with my phone's, giving me an error message, which is kinda annoying. With my Pixel 4a the clocks could be mismatched by a couple minutes and it would still work fine.

My wife's Pixel 6 doesn't seem to lose connection but does rapidly go on and off of charge which can't be good for the battery so this renders the app useless.

I followed Jimmy's suggestion as seems to have worked for me also. Steps to replicate on Pixel 6 (or any Android 12)

  • Open Settings
  • Search Settings - type "Android" and then select "Android Auto" from the search results.
  • Tap "Previously connected cars", then on the next screen, tap the three vertical dots in top right corner and "Forget all cars"
  • When you get back into your vehicle, connect as usual and re-pair your phone to the vehicle.

I did this yesterday whilst NOT connected to the vehicle and I've used it this morning for 30+ mins and at lunchtime for 10mins and had zero disconnections - normally I would've had multiple in that time.
I'm still dubious as to if it's properly fixed it, but fingers crossed and hope this works for everyone.
