Learn about Health Connect

You can now share health and fitness information with multiple applications, and you can keep full control over your personal data, with the Health Connect app.

Based on the permissions you choose, apps send data to Health Connect, which then stores data on your device and makes it available to other applications. This gives each connected app a better grasp of your health and wellness needs at any given time.

For example, with Health Connect, your nutrition app can read your step count that your fitness tracking app has written into Health Connect to provide you with a comprehensive view of your calories for the day.

What data types are supported

Important: Not all apps that are connected to Health Connect support every data type.

Health Connect collects and shares data across 6 health and wellness categories.

  • Activity: Active calories burned, basal body temperature, basal metabolic rate, cycling pedaling cadence, distance, elevation gained, exercises, floors climbed, power, speed, steps, total calories burned, VO2 max, and wheelchair pushes
  • Body Measurement: Body fat, bone mass, height, hip circumference, lean body mass, waist circumference, and weight
  • Cycle Tracking: Cervical mucus, menstruation, ovulation test, and sexual activity
  • Nutrition: Hydration and nutrition

  • Vitals: Blood glucose, blood pressure, body temperature, heart rate, oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, and resting heart rate

How Health Connect uses your data

Health Connect is a database that's stored on your device. This means that Google doesn’t use the cloud to store data that’s sent to Health Connect by connected applications.

You keep full control over your data. You can delete all your data from Health Connect, specific data types, specific categories of data, or all data from a previously connected app.

When you delete data, the data is deleted from your device’s Health Connect database. Other apps or devices may have a copy of your data. If you want to delete your data from those apps or devices, you may need to delete the data on each individual app or device.

To protect your data, apps have to declare what information they collect and share before they’re allowed to use Health Connect. Learn more about our policy requirements.
