Step 1: Set up a Universal Analytics property in your account

There are two ways to set up a Universal Analytics property in your account: Set up a new property, or upgrade an existing property to Universal Analytics. There are different considerations and instructions you need to follow for each process. Click each + below for more information.

Create a new Universal Analytics property

Setting up a new property is a good option if you are new to Google Analytics, or if you need to collect data from a new website, mobile app, or other digital device.

This is also a good option if don’t need to combine any historical data from an existing property with any new data you collect. For example, if you have one website and are already using Google Analytics, you could set up a new property in your account and track that same website using Universal Analytics. You’ll have access to both properties, but you won’t be able to mix any of the data between the two.

Follow the instructions on how to create a property in your Google Analytics account.
